Mission accomplished: Two intensive weeks, many helping hands – and a result everyone involved can be proud of.

The Geberit Social Project at Kangemi Comprehensive School in Nairobi has achieved its goal. The result:

🚽 3 new toilet blocks with a total of 29 squat toilets, 4 urinals and 28 handwashing points
💧 1 cleaning room with a sink and hose connection for cleaning the toilets
☀️ 2 solar-powered drinking water stations with 8/10 water outlets
🎨 8 repaired and freshly painted classrooms
🖍️ a supply of handmade chalk for the entire school
💙 and a Memory Wall to remember this very special time

But after two weeks, much more remains than new sanitary facilities and freshly painted walls.

There are new connections. Shared learning. Teamwork. Laughter, games and dancing. And many moments that the Geberit apprentices and the students of Kangemi School will not forget anytime soon.

Ancient bathing culture, the Scandinavian way 🏛️

In the Geberit Design Contest, Thomas Sandell from AFRY in Sweden shows how a compact bathroom becomes an architectural experience. His design ""A bathroom with a view"" arranges a sequence of zones within a small footprint, from a vaulted shower space to a mini-spa with a window view. Inspired by the bathing culture of antiquity yet given a contemporary Scandinavian interpretation, a bold palette meets natural materials such as stone and wood. Even a small bathroom can engage the body as much as the eye.

Bringing nature back into the room 🌿

In the Geberit Design Contest, Jeroen de Nijs from Jeroen de Nijs BNI BV in the Netherlands shows how a bathroom becomes a wellness experience where nature and form enhance one another. His design "Have a NIJS bathroom!" pairs clean architecture with biophilic design: plants, natural materials and earthy tones bring calm, while light and space create quiet luxury. The open plan works for several people at once and still keeps privacy. A timeless bathroom that you don't just use, but truly experience.

A bathroom interior inspired by the Baltic coast 🌊

In the Geberit Design Contest, Justina Garbste from Justinarch projektai in Lithuania shows how a bathroom becomes a calm, spa-like retreat. Her design "Baltic Coast Spa Bathroom" captures the mood of sand, sea tones and sunset through warm furniture finishes, brown-toned textured tiles and soft lighting. A minimalist layout keeps the space open and calm, with material and atmosphere at the centre. True luxury, born from simplicity and refined detail.

The participants of the Geberit Social Project 2026 have enjoyed an intense and rewarding first week at Kangemi Comprehensive School in Nairobi. Alongside new encounters and experiences, they have already made great progress towards their shared goal.

With the fantastic support of two apprentices from the Geberit Training Centre for sanitary installers in Nairobi, most of the new toilets are already in place after just one week.

But the project is about much more than construction work. Together with the students of Kangemi School, the apprentices repainted four classrooms, made colourful chalk for the school and shared countless moments of learning, exchange and fun.

After a week like this, there was only one thing left to do:
Time to dance together! 🎶

A bathroom as a private stage for water, light and calm

In the Geberit Design Contest, Carsten Deis and Johann Kerkhofs from The Collective Studio in Germany show how a bathroom becomes the most intimate space in a hotel. In their design "raw&framed – private stage for water", the colour, surface and tactility of the materials define the space: lime plaster, slate, terrazzo, wood, bronze and clay, regionally sourced wherever possible. A few resilient tones and a subtle play of light create atmosphere and make the bathroom calm, precise and future-proof.

Descend into the depth of the sea 🪸

In the Geberit Design Contest, Laura Seppänen from LS Design Agency in Finland shows how a bathroom becomes a hotel room of the future. Her design "Underwater Suite" draws on the quiet underwater world: dark, green tones create a protective, private space where everyday noise fades away. A Finnish sauna and natural materials make for a deeply restoring and relaxing experience.

12 Geberit apprentices, two weeks of working together – and a welcome that will not be forgotten anytime soon.

As part of the Geberit Social Project 2026, 12 apprentices are spending two weeks supporting the improvement of sanitation facilities at Kangemi Comprehensive School in Nairobi, Kenya. More than 4,000 children between the ages of 5 and 15 attend the school. Their incredible warmth overwhelmed the group from the very first moment – and gave everyone even more motivation to achieve the shared goal:

🚰 better handwashing facilities
🚽 new toilets
💧 improved sanitation infrastructure for the school

Intensive days filled with hard work, encounters and new experiences lie ahead. After this amazing start, one thing is already clear: these will be two very special weeks.
