Twenty-five years of visiting companies teach you many things. One of them is that you can tell a lot about a business before anyone opens their mouth.
You just need to look at the car in the parking lot.
I know, it sounds like I am joking. I am not. The colleague who once sat in my disaster of a car and said "I keep mine as if I were returning it to the dealership tomorrow" was not joking either. He was, very politely, telling me something important about myself.
Since then I have walked through hundreds of warehouses, offices, and MRO facilities. And the pattern is always the same: the companies with papers piled to the ceiling, no procedures, and a different way of doing things for every employee, those are the ones that call us when things have already gone wrong.
Funny how that works.
In we like to think we are different. We have regulations, certifications, and very serious documents with very small print. And yet, somehow, the messy desk still finds a way in.
I wrote about order, processes, and what your car says about you before you say anything at all. Link below and no, the last question is not comfortable.
