✈️ What role do aviation shows still play today?

From AERO to EBACE or the Paris Air Show – these events are still where the aviation industry comes together.

For startups like Smartflyer, they’re one of the few places where real connections with key players happen – often leading to partnerships and new opportunities.

At the same time, attending comes with significant effort, especially when bringing an aircraft. Making it worthwhile is key.

✈️ Looks fragile? Think again.

Aircraft safety is proven long before first flight through rigorous structural testing.

In April, together with SETUP TECH GmbH, we completed a major structural test campaign — another key milestone on our path to first flight.

One example:
A flap weighing just 6.3 kg had to withstand loads of 380 kg.

What looks light is the result of precise engineering and thorough validation.

The images show highlights from the campaign, including flap load tests, rudder bending tests, and winglet load testing.

These tests bring us another step closer to achieving our Permit to Fly later this year.

Big thanks to SETUP TECH GmbH for the strong partnership.

Heart on display, aircraft in testing ❤️✈️

Despite an intensive testing week, we didn’t miss the opportunity to be present at AERO Friedrichshafen 2026.

While our aircraft itself was not on display this year, it was for a good reason: the prototype is currently undergoing extensive testing as we move forward in the development phase. Important progress often happens behind the scenes.

At the show, we once again had the chance to engage in many insightful conversations with partners, industry experts, and the wider aviation community. Our CEO Rolf already took part in the Battery & Hydrogen Aviation Summit ahead of AERO, while the rest of the team was present throughout the week together with our colleagues from the Electrifly-In Switzerland.

We were also very proud to see our key partner H55 at the event. While the SF-1 itself wasn’t there, its “heart” was: the battery system consisting of Adagio battery modules from H55, representing a core element of our aircraft and a tangible piece of the Smartflyer concept 🔋

A big thank you to everyone we met. We’re looking forward to continuing the conversations.

Another important step forward for H55 — and for electric aviation. 🚀

This milestone marks more than program progress — it confirms H55’s transition into commercial deployment of certified electric propulsion solutions.

The Adagio system has now completed its full certification test campaign and is being integrated into an active aircraft program, enabling the next phase of system-level validation and flight testing.

Ground testing is planned for this summer, with a first flight targeted for autumn 2026.

H55 is now delivering scalable, integration-ready products that aircraft manufacturers can deploy across programs — accelerating the path to electric and hybrid-electric flight.

🌍 From certification to deployment — this is how electric aviation scales.

⚡ Smartflyer & H55 charge ahead in aviation

We’re excited to announce the successful delivery of the first Adagio battery modules from H55 - an important step forward in the development of our SFX1 aircraft.

This delivery enables us to move into the next phase of the program, focusing on system-level validation and preparing for ground testing. It’s a major step as we transition from individual component testing toward full aircraft integration.

What makes this milestone particularly significant is the maturity of the technology: H55’s Adagio battery system has successfully completed EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification testing, bringing us closer to real-world application of electric aviation solutions.

✈️ Looking ahead:
Ground testing of the SFX1 is planned for this summer, with first flight targeted for autumn.

🙏 A big thank you to the entire H55 team for the strong collaboration and shared commitment to advancing sustainable aviation.

🚀10 Years of Smartflyer – From Vision to Reality

Ten years ago, Smartflyer began with a simple question: Why isn’t flying more efficient?

What started as an idea in the cockpit has grown into a real aircraft, now approaching its first flight. Along the way, we built what didn’t yet exist — advancing airframe design, hybrid-electric propulsion, and adapting as battery technology evolved.

Key milestones include our SFX-1 prototype rollout in 2024, international showcases at AERO Friedrichshafen and the Paris Air Show in 2025, and our partnership with H55.

Today, we stand on the edge of first flight. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.

✈️ No aircraft at AERO this year — and that’s exactly why we’re excited.

Smartflyer is currently deep in development, refining our battery system concept and preparing the SF-1 for its next major milestones, including the first flight later this year. It’s great to see this journey reflected in the latest aerokurier article: https://www.aerokurier.de/elektroflug/neues-antriebskonzept-fuer-smartflyer/?dicbo=v2-K6mQh8M

As outlined there, our current focus is fully on testing and development — which means the SF-1 won’t be on display AERO Friedrichshafen this year.

👋 But don’t worry — we’re not disappearing. Even without our own booth, our team is looking forward to great conversations, new connections, and exchanging ideas with many of you on site.

🏆 Also, aerokurier is running its Innovation Award. If you happen to take part and feel that Smartflyer resonates with you, we’d truly appreciate your support — no pressure, just appreciation. 👉 https://www.aerokurier.de/abstimmen-und-preise-gewinnen-leserwahl-zum-aerokurier-innovation-award/

Electric aviation reaches another important milestone ⚡✈️

A big congratulations to H55 for successfully completing the first full EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency-supervised certification test campaign for electric aircraft batteries — including thermal runaway containment.

This achievement marks a decisive step forward for the industry. It proves that high-energy propulsion batteries can be designed, built, and validated to safely manage worst-case failure scenarios, using production-conforming hardware under real certification conditions.

At Smartflyer AG, we know first-hand how demanding these safety and certification processes are. Progress like this doesn’t happen overnight — it is the result of deep engineering expertise, perseverance, and a strong safety culture.

We are proud to work with H55 and to integrate their Adagio battery system into the Smartflyer aircraft program. Milestones like this bring electric aviation one step closer to safe, scalable, and commercially viable zero-emission flight 🔋

Well done to the entire H55 team — we look forward to continuing this journey together 👏

🚀 Powering up for the future of electric aviation

In the video below, you can see the first test of our electric motor with propeller in operation. While this may look like a small step, it is an important milestone on our path toward first flight.

2026 will be a key year for Smartflyer.
Our goal is clear: to achieve the Proof of Concept with the first flight of our prototype.

To get there, we are working at full speed to complete the individual system tests. Our motto for this year says it all: test, test, test!
Each successful test brings us closer to preparing the prototype for comprehensive ground tests and, ultimately, to the runway.

The commissioning of the electric motor marks a crucial step in this journey — and many more exciting milestones are ahead. Step by step, system by system — we’re building the future of efficient, electric aviation.
