In this week, we replaced a Scania engine control unit (ECU) using a donor unit from a spare vehicle.
The fault was traced to a damaged EGR valve driver circuit in the original ECU, which caused engine management and exhaust aftertreatment system warnings to appear on the dashboard.
Simply replacing the ECU is not enough, as it contains vehicle-specific data such as calibrations and immobilizer information.
In this case, the original ECU was opened, the protective gel was removed from the circuit board, and the complete data was read out. The file was then transferred to the donor ECU, preserving all vehicle-specific settings and calibration data.
Thanks to the ECU cloning process, the replacement unit was able to operate exactly like the original without any additional programming or commissioning procedures.
