📢 New peer-reviewed research from the team is now published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.

Our scientists investigated the impact of the microenvironment on cancer cells by comparing traditional cell culture versus a 3D collagen-based system that more closely mimics physiological conditions in vitro. Next to phenotypical differences, the findings show that the collagen microenvironment has a cell-specific impact on the whole transcriptome, both qualitatively and quantitatively. This significant transcriptional reprogramming points to essential changes in gene regulatory networks that affect cancer cell behavior — changes worth considering for downstream applications.
This matters because it reinforces why physiologically relevant models are so important for understanding biology and developing better treatments.

Have you read the recently published study from our research team?

How long can a cancer cell line be cultured before its gene expression starts to drift, and why does it matter for research? Our scientists at Central Europe investigated exactly that. By tracking the transcriptomic profile of HCT-116 colon cancer cells over 25 passages (~16 weeks), they found that gene expression remained largely stable up to passage 15. Beyond that point, genes linked to cell proliferation and cell death began to shift - changes that could affect how cells respond to therapies and compromise experimental reproducibility.

The takeaway: passage number is not a minor detail. It's a variable that can fundamentally influence research outcomes.

📢 We're proud to announce that International has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Genomik Solidaritas Indonesia (GSI Lab) to establish a comprehensive cancer diagnostics center of excellence in Indonesia, combining GSI's local infrastructure with RGCC's scientific expertise.

The collaboration will introduce and scale advanced diagnostic services in Indonesia, including:
🔬 ctDNA analysis
🔬 Tumor tissue genomic profiling via NGS panels
🔬 Functional Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) analysis

The agreement was formally presented to H.E. Mr. Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, Vice Minister of National Development Planning of the Republic of , reflecting the Indonesian Government's strong support for advancing precision medicine and molecular diagnostics in the region.

Today marks World Lung Cancer Day, a moment to raise awareness, honor those affected, and reaffirm our commitment to advancing cancer science.

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cases and deaths worldwide, with an estimated 2.5 million new cases and 1.8 million deaths recorded in 2022 alone. Yet the majority of cases are preventable, with to***co smoking accounting for 60–70% of cases, followed by air pollution and occupational exposure.

One of the greatest challenges is that lung cancer is often diagnosed at advanced stages, when treatment options become more limited. Early screening of high-risk individuals has the potential to change this, dramatically improving survival outcomes and saving lives.

📢 New publication from our Central Europe research team!

SHMT (serine hydroxymethyltransferase) has emerged as a promising target in cancer research due to its role in the metabolic pathways that fuel growth. Yet comprehensive biochemical data on SHMT inhibitors has remained a gap in the literature.
In this newly published study in RSC Advances, our scientists present the first application of an enzymatic assay, in which the SHMT reaction is coupled to the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase, to evaluate the activity of SHMT inhibitors — thereby providing missing data by using a new methodological and cost-effective approach that opens up new avenues for future drug discovery.
