At SHL Advantec, we recognize that the future of advanced manufacturing depends on developing highly skilled talent and creating opportunities for continuous learning.

That commitment is reflected in the long-standing partnership between our sub-brand, Superior Tooling Inc., and the NCTAP - North Carolina Triangle Apprenticeship Program. Since 2014, Superior Tooling has helped aspiring professionals gain practical experience, technical expertise, and a pathway to rewarding careers in tooling and manufacturing.

We are proud to celebrate Hagan Quinto on completing the NCTAP program and grateful for his contributions to the team. We also warmly welcome Dalton Preddy as our newest apprentice and look forward to supporting his professional journey.

A special thanks goes to President Scott Ralls for his contributions to a program that continues to develop the next generation of manufacturing talent. SHL Advantec’s modular AOU platform provides a defined upgrade pathway from manual loading and unloading to fully automated component handling. The core assembly architecture and primary loader remain in place, while fully automated modules can be introduced for the front sub-assembly, rear sub-assembly, and finished autoinjector.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Do you ever wonder what your children think when you leave for work each day?

They know you’re busy. They hear about meetings, projects, and sometimes late nights. But what do they think actually happens at work, and how much do they understand about why it matters?

At this year’s SHL Taiwan Future Day, our colleagues’ children had the opportunity to find out.

🔬 From exploring our labs to taking part in hands-on activities, they learned more about SHL’s products and how different teams work together to help improve patients’ lives.

Among the activities, the SHL Advantec’s Tooling team took on a fun challenge: how do you explain molds to children of different ages?

With a simple silicone molding demonstration, they turned a technical concept into something the children could see for themselves. Judging by the enthusiastic “Wow!” from the crowd, it was a success.

But the learning didn’t stop there 💡

For many children, it was their first glimpse into what their parents do each day and why it matters. For the parents who joined us, seeing SHL through their children’s eyes offered a fresh perspective on the expertise, teamwork, and purpose behind our work.

Scaling a proven autoinjector platform takes more than capacity. It takes confidence rooted in market-proven experience.

As the Molly autoinjector marks its 10-year anniversary, we are proud to reflect on the role our tooling expertise has played in supporting the platform’s continued growth and global impact.

To meet evolving market demands, SHL Advantec Tooling worked closely with the project and data engineers at SHL Medical to enable the significant production scale-up of a Molly autoinjector marketed for cardiometabolic disease.

In 2023, we engineered a new set of high-cavitation molds designed to support the transition from lower-volume production to high-volume manufacturing. The goal was clear: increase capacity while maintaining the consistent quality, reliability, and performance expected from a proven autoinjector platform.

Today, these molds support commercial production at SHL Medical’s manufacturing site in North Charleston, South Carolina, helping deliver the manufacturing capacity needed to serve growing patient demand.

For our team, this was more than a tooling project. It was a collaboration built on years of platform experience, deep process knowledge, and a shared commitment to manufacturing excellence. From mold engineering to dimensional consistency and production readiness, every detail mattered in helping ensure a smooth ramp-up without compromising device performance.

As part of Molly’s 10-year journey, this scale-up story is a meaningful reminder of how robust tooling solutions can help established platforms continue to evolve with market needs.

🎒When colleagues become students for a day 👧👦

To help prepare for the 2026 SHL Science Train, colleagues from Tooling and Automation Taiwan stepped into the role of “students for a day,” joining the Science Train team for a full practice run before the official event in October.

From the excitement of making mini molds and launching air rockets 🚀 to the satisfaction of completing metal-stamped trains 🚄, every activity was an opportunity to re-discover how things work. Experiencing the program from the eyes of elementary school students also gave us a deeper appreciation of how SHL transforms the science behind our products and manufacturing processes into solutions that help patients every day.

With the feedback gathered, these experiments will travel across Taiwan aboard the 2026 Science Train from October 19-24, inspiring young students through hands-on exploration while showcasing the innovation and technology behind our work.

A big thank you to all colleagues who took part as “students for a day,” as well as to the Science Train preparation team at SHL Medical and SHL Advantec for your dedication and collaboration in bringing this inspiring learning experience to life. We are thrilled to announce the successful SAT of our final assembly and final device testing systems in Japan – completed alongside our partners at WINCKLER & CO., LTD. 🤝

Building upon the strong collaborative foundation established well before shipment, this seamless handover to a leading pharmaceutical CMO in Japan was made possible by the exceptional on-the-ground expertise and support of our local partner. These systems – a semi-automatic AD08 final assembly machine and a modular semi-automatic testing machine – are designed to support the production of a button-activated autoinjector based on SHL Medical’s DAI technology.

Expanding our footprint in Japan is a key focus for our team, and the collaboration with WINCKLER, who will provide on-site services for these systems, highlights our commitment to delivering advanced automation solutions globally. Together, we aim to strengthen the local pharmaceutical supply chain to ensure high-quality medications reach the market efficiently and ultimately enable patients’ independence.

🔄 Multi-device compatibility is emerging as the gold standard for final assembly equipment. But what does that actually mean in practice?

For SHL Advantec, multi-device compatibility means much more than a machine’s ability to assemble different devices on the same equipment. True compatibility is the result of thoughtful engineering across hardware, software, and the user experience – working together to make changeovers faster, operations simpler, and investments go further.

In our AOU final assembly machine, this starts with the decoupling of the core machine base from project-specific modules, including the grippers, fixtures, transportation pucks, and the control systems. From there, every design decision is made with flexibility in mind:

In the increasingly diverse pharmaceutical landscape, final assembly infrastructure must account for shifting project demands. The capacity to process multiple device and primary container formats without major operational disruption translates into a significant advantage for pharmaceutical CMOs.

SHL Advantec’s AOU final assembly platform is engineered to deliver this exact operational value. To mitigate the limitations of single-purpose machinery, the platform utilizes a highly configurable framework that offers compatibility across different injection device and primary container formats.

This structural flexibility also extends to its fully automated primary container handling station, which can be built to process both tub and tray carriers on the same equipment. The result is a dynamic final assembly machine that can be modified in direct response to evolving market demands.

The technology is currently deployed at SHL Medical’s final assembly site Florida for the commercial production of a dual-chamber cartridge autoinjector built on the Reunite technology.
