🦦 Do you know about the HuillĂn?
It’s one of the otters with the smallest geographical distribution, whose population has decreased enormously in the last 200 years.
The Southern river otter (Lontra provocax), more commonly known as huillĂn, is found only in southern Chile and Argentina, including ChiloĂ© Island. It's endemic to Patagonia, lives in freshwater and coastal habitats, and is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
The HuillĂn is losing ground fast due to habitat destruction, invasive species, and human disturbance. To make things worse, it’s barely present in protected areas!
