🦦 Do you know about the Huillín?
It’s one of the otters with the smallest geographical distribution, whose population has decreased enormously in the last 200 years.
The Southern river otter (Lontra provocax), more commonly known as huillín, is found only in southern Chile and Argentina, including Chiloé Island. It's endemic to Patagonia, lives in freshwater and coastal habitats, and is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
The Huillín is losing ground fast due to habitat destruction, invasive species, and human disturbance. To make things worse, it’s barely present in protected areas!
