The 4 Stages of a Standard RO System A typical commercial or residential RO system relies on multiple stages of filtration to protect the delicate membrane and ensure the highest water quality
1) Sediment Pre-Filter: Traps sand, silt, dirt, and rust particles that could otherwise clog or damage the system.
2)Carbon Pre-Filter: Utilizes activated carbon to remove chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and unpleasant odors or tastes. Chlorine must be removed because it degrades thin-film composite RO membranes.
3)Reverse Osmosis Membrane: The heart of the system. It filters out microscopic contaminants, including heavy metals (lead, arsenic), salts, fluorides, nitrates, and microorganisms.
4)Carbon Post-Filter: A final carbon filter that treats the purified water as it leaves the storage tank, removing any residual taste or odor before it is dispensed.
