Last week Thursday, we hosted our Break the Pattern IWD event with WTM Bamenda at GBHS Downtown Bamenda, and it was truly an amazing experience.
The event was centered on one goal, challenging stereotypes and helping young girls see the possibilities available to them in tech and beyond. Through different sessions, we introduced them to:
🎤 Keynote – Nfah
💡 Artificial Intelligence –
🎨 Design – kelly
🔐 Cybersecurity – Goodness,
🚀 Practical ways to use tech skills
🌍 Tech communities and opportunities for growth – Butlar
A key part of the event was the panel discussion:
“Are girls built for greatness or boxed in by stereotypes?”
This session opened up honest conversations around societal expectations, early marriage, and limiting beliefs. It created a space for reflection, questions, and new perspectives.
Panelists: Pieranne, Cindy, Alvin
We also had a pitching competition where three groups presented their ideas. The presentations showed creativity, confidence, and problem-solving. Winners received prizes, and all participants gained valuable exposure.
Highlights from the event:
🤝 Foundation sponsored one of the groups
💻 offered mentorship opportunities to a cohort
Overall, the event focused on exposure, confidence, and shifting mindsets. It was a reminder that the challenge is not ability, but the limitations often placed on it.
A big thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes to make this event a success. Special thanks to our speakers and panelists for sharing their knowledge and inspiring the students.
We also appreciate our sponsors, Yekov Foundation and GGIT, for their support in making this event impactful.
Girls are capable of building, leading, and achieving. The focus now is to keep breaking the barriers. 💥
