THE PROCESS AND TIMELINE FOR GETTING YOUR BOREHOLE DRILLED

The process of transforming your water situation is easier than you ever thought. You don’t have to go through a difficult hustle in order to get help. Walk with me the process:



1. HYDROGEOLOGICAL SURVEY: - This is a research stage where your contractor employs scientific methods to search for the most promising point with water in your farm and recommend the optimum drilling depth. It is the most important stage, since it makes the whole process simpler. Make sure you engage a professional at this stage, to avoid drilling of dry boreholes. TIMEFRAME: 1 DAY

2. PERMITS, LICENSES AND AUTHORIZATIONS: - You need approval from various government agencies in order to drill a borehole. As a precious water resource, boreholes are regulated by WRA, NEMA and various county governments. TIMEFRAME: 1 WEEK

3. DRILLING: - The actual drilling work, done by use of a Drilling Rig, mostly mounted on a truck. TIMEFRAME: 3 DAYS.

There are various stages involved in this phase:

i. Drilling of an open hole: This is the actual drilling.

ii. Casing: The borehole is installed with either plastic or steel casing, in order to prevent collapsing. It is key to be sure about whether plastic or steel casings are appropriate for your borehole, considering strength and water quality for that particular area. Don’t always go with the cheaper ones

iii. Gravel Packing: A layer of gravel is packed in between the casing and the walls of the hole to act as a filter medium, to allow clean water into the borehole. Always ensure this is done, to avoid water with dust suspended in it.

iv. Well Development: Otherwise known as flushing. You have seen pictures where water comes out of the borehole at very high pressure with the rig still at the borehole? Well, what happens is, the rig sends in air at very high pressure, therefore pushing out everything that i
