The United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit was held in New York on Sept. 22–23, local time. As the annual flagship event hosted by the UN Global Compact, the summit brought together heads of UN agencies, global leaders and experts from all sectors to turn sustainable development principles into meaningful actions.
At a session themed “Collective Action and Systemic Change”, the sustainable development project team from State Grid Corporation of China, as China’s sole representative and one of the five global finalists, was invited to present its AI-powered green and resilient energy solution, “AI for good: Chasing the light, seeking the carbon”. This marks the first time China’s AI innovation has debuted at this UN summit.
Powered by the AI super-agent “Guangqing（meaning“light engine”in Chinese）”, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company analyzes the complex power grid of this megacity. It builds a power supply network with 99.999% ultra-high reliability for 13,000 technology and innovation enterprises in Hangzhou, helping the enterprises achieve a 6.6% reduction in product carbon footprint and delivering a replicable Chinese solution for green and low-carbon development.
David Steingard, Head of Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) at the UN Global Compact, commented: “State Grid’s project concept is outstanding and has the potential to be scaled up. Both reliable, continuous power supply and energy-saving and carbon-reduction capabilities are urgently needed by power grid companies around the world.”
Onsite team members acted as “Green Power TO” volunteers, introducing the handbook “Green Ark Program — Together for a Coexisting Planet” and State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power’s “Climate Governance Innovation Case Collection,” sharing achievements in green and sustainable development .
