The camel-bell path lingers still today, tall pylons span through millennia away.
At this stop, State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power invites international guests to witness the "hardcore romance" of China's power grid—guarding millennia-old civilization on one hand, and powering the pulse of modern society on the other. From the warm lights of the Xi'an Museum to the electric current at the Zhuque Substation, every kilowatt-hour of power is China's green answer to the world.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos as well as the Year of China-Laos Friendship. On August 29, the first stop of the “Green Energy TO” Silk Road Project — the “Green Energy TO” Zero-Carbon Library aided by State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power — was officially inaugurated at Santiphab Secondary School in Luang Prabang Province, Laos. The initiative not only offers new solutions to local practical challenges including limited diverse teaching resources and power shortages during the dry season, but also sets a model for deepening people-to-people exchanges, youth joint development and green cooperation between the two regions. It further consolidates the foundation of bilateral friendship and cooperation, builds consensus for coordinated development, and demonstrates the value of achievements under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The library is functionally divided around "One Library, One Classroom, One Base" to promote resource sharing between China and Laos. “One Library” refers to the library itself. Equipped with air conditioners, computers, televisions, Chinese-Lao bilingual books, and connected to a digital book repository, it delivers a comfortable environment for reading and digital learning. To its left lies “One Classroom”, an open “Air Classroom” enabling students from both countries to attend online lessons together. To the right stands “One Base”, a popular science base fitted with power-generating bicycles, photovoltaic benches and plastic recycling bins. It makes clean energy tangible and experiential, integrating green energy into daily campus life.

In the future, the “Green Energy TO” Silk Road Project will roll out a series of initiatives such as "Zero-Carbon Libraries" and "Green Energy Water Purification" in Belt and Road partner countries and regions including Laos, Cambodia and Chile. These efforts advance international people-centered cooperation and contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

On August 18, the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) convened in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The ecological governance practice project of State Grid Ningxia Electric Power — When Grid Enterprises Become Desert-Control Workers: Sand Retreats and Greenery Advances at the Foot of Transmission Towers — officially debuted at the conference.

Since 2012, taking the overall ecological conservation and governance of the Yellow River’s “Ji-shaped” bend region as its priority, the company has joined hands with local governments, forestry authorities and local communities to innovate an integrated closed-loop desert-control system of “Assessment-Governance- Maintenance”. Over 14 years, it has rehabilitated 450,000 square meters of desert land, laid 1.275 million square meters of sand-fixing straw checkerboards, and planted more than 80,000 saplings. Vegetation coverage along transmission towers has surged from less than 3 % to over 75 %. The project contributes State Grid’s insights to global desertification control and ecological sustainable development.

“When they fly, they blot out the clouds and moon; when they settle, the lakeside grass disappears from view.”

Every autumn and winter, over 700,000 migratory birds arrive in Jiangxi for wintering, including more than 98% of the world’s Siberian cranes, 80% of oriental white storks, and over 70% of white-naped cranes. Above the mist-shrouded vast Poyang Lake, power transmission towers have become nesting sites for oriental white storks.

In recent years, State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power has launched the public-welfare project “Guardians Around Poyang Lake — A Lifeline for Migratory Birds”. Through technological monitoring, multi-party collaboration, and artificial nests, the project safeguards rare migratory birds. By the end of July 2026, the project had protected 17 nests of oriental white storks and 48 fledglings, and rescued 4 adult birds, telling an ecological story of harmonious coexistence between power grids and wildlife.

The 2026 World Robot Conference opened in Beijing E-Town on August 19. State Grid Beijing Electric Power completed the exhibition hall’s capacity expansion and renovation in advance. It set up a “1+N” on-site support team for extended services, installed four UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems, and kept emergency power supply vehicles on 24-hour standby. Leveraging tools including the “One Graph of Power Grid” and the power supply service command system, the company carried out comprehensive assessment of the distribution network serving the conference, strengthened online load monitoring, and built a full-round power security line of defense to safeguard this global robotics-technology event.

Cool breezes blow in August amid lush greenery. On August 13, on the occasion of National Ecological Day, international students from the School of International Education of Hubei Polytechnic University visited the Bird Conservation Volunteer Service Station of State Grid Huangshi Power Supply Company for practical exchanges.

Combined with transmission line inspections, the company carries out bird monitoring, migratory bird rescue and ecological sciencepopularization work. It has rescued more than 300 birds in total, achieving a winwin outcome for safe power grid operation and bird conservation. Chinese and foreign youth held indepth discussions on migratory bird protection and biodiversity conservation. Taking birds as a bridge, they built an international platform for ecological exchanges, spreading the green development principle of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

Qixi Festival, a traditional Chinese romantic festival, originates from ancient stellar worship. Separated by the vast Milky Way, the timeless legend of the Cowherd (or Niulang) and the Weaver Girl (or Zhinv) has been passed down among generations. Magpies form a bridge for their annual reunion. People gaze up at the starry sky to convey longing. Since ancient times, folk customs such as praying for dexterity and star worship have prevailed. Young maidens pray for ingenuity, while lovers wish for everlasting companionship, embodying aspirations for blessed marriages and earthly affection.
