As a manufacturer of compostable films and bags, we see the recent California bill setback as a win for science-based policy. Banning all plastic-containing compostables would undermine the very goal of diverting organics from landfills. Let’s focus on infrastructure and clear standards, not blanket prohibitions.

Sticky bags slowing down your packing line? Here’s what we did.

When many food & beverage brands switch to compostable bags, they run into an annoying problem: static cling. The bags stick together at the mouth, making them hard to open – and that kills packaging efficiency.

A client came to us with exactly this headache. Instead of changing the material or increasing the thickness, we made two tiny adjustments during the bag‑making (cutting & sealing) stage:

1️⃣ Added a micron‑grade slip agent to the formulation – barely measurable, but it changes the surface friction.
2️⃣ Adjusted the depth of the die‑cutting pattern on the sealing jaws – this creates micro‑textures that reduce contact area.

The result?
We lowered the coefficient of friction by 30% – without changing the overall bag thickness. When the client ran a full batch on their production line, the operators immediately noticed: “Much smoother – we can open them with one hand now.”
