💥 A high-quality wire drawing process starts from properly prepared copper rods. Surface cleaning, lubrication and precise feeding ensure stable drawing performance, longer die life and high-quality conductors.

👉 1. Incoming Copper Rod Inspection(The first step is to inspect the purchased copper rods.)

Main checks include:
① Diameter: The standard copper rod specification is Φ8mm.
② Copper Purity: High-purity electrolytic copper is generally used in the cable industry.
③ Resistivity
④ Surface Defects
⑤ Oxygen Content
⑥ Mechanical Properties

Why is this important?
Because wire drawing is a continuous process, if the copper rod itself has:
● Cracks
● Oxidation Points
● Impurities
Subsequent high-speed wire drawing is prone to:
❌ Wire Breakage
❌ Die Damage
❌ Unstable Copper Wire Quality

👉2. Copper Rod Surface Cleaning
During transportation and storage, the surface of the copper rod may contain:
● Dust
● Oil Stains
● Oxides
● Copper Powder
Therefore, cleaning is necessary.
●Common methods:
●Mechanical Cleaning
For example:
●Steel Brush Cleaning
●Abrasive Belt Treatment
●Removal of Surface Oxide Layer.
●Chemical Cleaning
Through acid pickling or special cleaning solutions:

Copper oxide
Surface impurities
Makes the copper rod surface smoother.
👉3. Surface Descaling
This is a crucial step before wire drawing.
If the copper rod surface has an oxide layer:

❌ Accelerates die wear
❌ Causes scratches on the copper wire surface
After descaling:
✅ Reduces drawing resistance
✅ Improves copper wire surface smoothness
✅ Extends die life
👉4. Lubrication
Before entering the wire drawing machine, lubrication is applied to the copper rod surface.
Function:
●Reduces friction
●During the wire drawing process:
●The copper rod experiences significant pressure as it passes through the die or***ce.
Lubrication can:
✅️Reduce drawing force
✅️Reduce heat generation
✅️Reduce copper wire surface damage

👉5. Copper Rod Tip Pointing
Since an 8mm copper rod cannot pass directly through the first drawing die, the following is necessary:
Pointing
This involves machining the head of the copper rod into a tapered shape.
Purpose:

Passing through the first die
Installation into the drawing machine's traction system
This is a mandatory step before starting the drawing machine.

👉6. Preheating Treatment (Some High-Speed ​​Production Lines)
Some high-speed drawing production lines add:
Preheating or online heating

Purpose:
✅️Reduce material hardness
✅️Improve drawing performance
✅️Reduce the risk of wire breakage

However, ordinary copper drawing production lines generally do not require this.

For extrusion lines equipped with a Self-Centering Crosshead, line setup heavily centers on temperature management and compound plasticization.
