What is mechanical seal?
A mechanical seal is a shaft sealing device for fluid-carrying rotating machinery. It consists of at least one pair of end faces perpendicular to the axis of rotation, which, under the influence of fluid pressure, the elastic force of a compensating mechanism, and the cooperation of auxiliary seals, maintain contact and slide relative to each other to prevent fluid leakage.
What are the components of a mechanical seal?
Typically, a mechanical seal consists of four parts:
The first part is the sealing face, composed of a rotating ring and a stationary ring, sometimes also called a friction pair.
The second part is a buffer compensation mechanism, mainly composed of elastic elements, whose function is to ensure a tight fit between the sealing faces.
The third part is the auxiliary sealing rings, which include both rotating and stationary rings.
The fourth part is the transmission mechanism that allows the rotating ring to rotate with the shaft.
