The customer did not choose any of the previous three options. Instead, they opted to add Polywire to the top of the posts and increase the energy of the Energizer. This can be understood as a simplified version of the second option.

Why did the customer choose this solution?
⭐ The biggest reason is that it is cost-effective and economical.

The customer will first purchase a set of products required for this plan (including Polywire, Insulators, Energizers, etc.) and test it in one orchard. If this solution effectively drives elephants away, he will promote this plan nationwide. Therefore, the initial investment cost is relatively high, but it is more cost-effective compared to the original three options.

🐘 How to resolve human-elephant conflict using electronic fences？

🚧 Option 3: THE STRUCTURAL DEFENSE (HOT POSTS)

⭐1、 Concept: Converting the post from a passive target into an active defense mechanism.

👍 2、Technical Implementation:
（1）Material: Galvanized Iron (GI) pipes replace traditional wooden posts.
（2）Insulation: A "Middle Post Ground Insulator" assembly isolates the metal pipe from the soil to prevent grounding.
（3）Electrification: The entire surface of the post is connected to the positive terminal of the energizer.

⚠️ 3、Effectiveness: Zero tolerance. Any attempt to lean against, wrap a trunk around, or touch the post results in an immediate electric shock.

4、Advantages😀：
（1）Relatively low long-term maintenance costs.
（2）High durability against physical force.

5、Disadvantages🤔:
（1）High Initial Investment: Requires specialized GI pipes and custom insulation bases.
（2）Safety Risk: High risk of accidental shock to humans who touch the posts.
（3）Fire Hazard: Overgrowth of weeds or contact with dry vegetation can cause short circuits or spark fires.

This solution involves retrofitting existing posts with angled brackets, known as outriggers. Instead of a complete reconstruction, this method upgrades the current infrastructure to create a more effective defensive perimeter.

⭐ 2、Why It Works: Nose/Trunk Deterrence
The effectiveness of this design is rooted in geometry. By extending the live wire away from the main support post, the system exploits the elephant's anatomy.

😀 3、Advantages
（1）Cost-Efficient: There is no need for a total teardown or reconstruction, as it utilizes the existing fence line.

（2）Resource Saving: It significantly reduces both material and labor costs compared to building new systems.

🤔 4、Disadvantages
（1）Maintenance Needs: The system requires regular inspections to check the tightness and security of the brackets, as vibration or contact can loosen the hardware over time.

🐘 How to resolve human-elephant conflict using electronic fences？

⭐ Option 1: Kinetic Defense
This approach is primarily implemented through Hanging Electric Fences, a method that has gained widespread recognition in regions like Sri Lanka.

1、Concept 🚧 :
A "curtain" of live wires hangs from an overhead cable, placing the entire support structure out of the elephant's reach.

2、Mechanism🧠:
Cognitive Confusion Elephants are highly intelligent and often learn to dismantle traditional fences by pushing over the posts. However, they cannot dismantle a barrier that moves with them. This "phantom barrier" effect negates their ability to use brute force.

3、Disadvantages and Limitations： ⚠️
(1) High Initial Investment: Hanging Electric Fences require extremely stable, high-level support structures. This necessitates the use of steel pipes or reinforced concrete pillars, leading to significant upfront capital costs.
(2) Target Specificity: While highly effective against large mammals, this design is elevated and therefore cannot prevent smaller animals from entering the protected area.

In Sri Lanka, approximately two-thirds of the elephant 🐘 population lives outside of designated wildlife sanctuaries. This high degree of overlap with human communities has made human-elephant conflict a critical and pressing issue. Many of our local clients have turned to our electronic fencing systems to mitigate these tensions and protect both villagers and their crops.

Interestingly, we have recently seen a surge in similar demands from clients in other countries. In those regions, frequent logging activities have severely degraded natural elephant habitats. As a result, elephants often venture into villages and orchards in search of food, leading to significant economic losses for local farmers.

😲 Initially, these clients tried a combination of wooden stakes and standard electric fencing, but the results were underwhelming. The footage they shared of elephants breaking into orchards was truly eye-opening: elephants are incredibly intelligent and will use their trunks to push over the wooden stakes directly, neutralizing the fence and gaining easy entry.

⭐ Based on these videos and data, my technical team and I have developed three specialized solutions, which I will introduce in detail in my upcoming posts.

🤔 A "Strange" Request Turned Into a Great Partnership

A new customer recently contacted us asking for samples of almost every Post, Polywire, and Polyrope in our catalog. Interestingly, he didn't ask for any Insulators, which are usually a standard part of an electric fence setup.

As a supplier, it would have been easy to just say "yes" and ship the items. But I knew something felt off. After speaking with him, I found out why: his main business is actually in mobile phone accessories. Electric fencing was a new, niche venture for him, and he was willing to pay high shipping costs for a huge pile of samples just to see what worked.

Instead of just sending everything, we explained the technical compatibility of our products. Together, we picked only the samples that actually made sense for his goals—for example, insulators that are compatible with fiberglass posts.

By doing this, we saved him a lot of money on shipping. I’m really happy we could help him out.
