Rising Oil Prices are Starting to Squeeze the Glove Industry
With global oil prices on the rise, the petrochemical industry is beginning to feel the heat. Since crude oil is the "building block" for almost everything synthetic, the cost of making raw materials is jumping.
Think of chemicals like butadiene and acrylonitrile—the essentials for making nitrile rubber (NBR). As oil gets more expensive, so does the process of turning it into these ingredients. Suppliers are already updating their contracts to reflect these higher costs, and many in the industry worry that if oil stays high, supplies will tighten and prices will keep climbing.
What does this mean for the big picture? The pressure is building at the start of the supply chain, which usually means price hikes for finished products, like gloves, are just around the corner.
