My 6-step framework for efficient, client-friendly packaging design. 🦾

Step 1: Gather Everything. Get a signed-off checklist from the client: die-lines, copy, assets, references. Double-check it.

Step 2: LAYOUT FIRST. The step most skip. Define margins, choose a grid, and draft a rough layout. This is the blueprint for a “neat” design.

Step 3: Populate the Grid. Place your elements within the established structure. Adjust and refine.

Step 4: Visualize in 3D. Use a mockup to see the assembled product. Crucial for client communication.

Step 5: Test Print for Scale. Print a section. Screens distort size and proportion. (Ignore color accuracy at this stage).

Step 6: Final Client Review. Present the 3D mockup and final design for last-minute adjustments.

This process saves time, reduces headaches, and results in a better design.

How to Avoid Low-Quality Kitchen Tools (From an Industrial Designer)

As an industrial designer with firsthand manufacturing knowledge, I see why some Amazon reviews lament newer tools failing while older ones last decades. While not all new items are poor quality, issues like planned obsolescence, rushed production, and cheaper materials are common.

The good news? You can spot better-made tools. Focus on these two critical factors for longevity:

1. Avoid Weak Assembly: Most tools break at stress points (handles, joints) due to poor assembly or design.
Hack: Choose tools with fewer parts and reinforced construction** (especially where force is applied). Simpler designs often last longer.

2. Beware Low-Quality Materials: “Stainless steel” that rusts is likely cheap, inferior metal.
Hack: Only buy if the manufacturer specifies the exact material e.g., “18/10 stainless steel”). Avoid tools with vague claims like “rust-resistant.” Also, check care instructions – some materials degrade quickly in dishwashers, even if labeled “dishwasher safe.”

Don’t assume new = bad. Focus on robust construction and verified materials to find tools that won’t disappoint.
