Monel K500 (UNS N05500): High Strength Meets Exceptional Corrosion Resistance
Monel K500 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the outstanding corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with significantly enhanced strength and hardness.
With a typical composition of Ni β₯63%, Cu 27β33%, Al 2.3β3.15%, and Ti 0.35β0.85%, it achieves:
β Tensile strength: up to ~1300 MPa
β Yield strength: up to ~1000 MPa
β Excellent ductility (~20% elongation)
π‘ Key Advantages:
β’ Maintains mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures up to ~480Β°C
β’ Excellent resistance to seawater, hydrofluoric acid, and alkaline environments
β’ Good performance in controlled sulfuric acid conditions
β’ Resistant to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking
β’ Low magnetic permeability & high fatigue strength
β’ Can meet NACE MR0175 requirements with proper heat treatment
βοΈ Typical Applications:
β’ Marine & offshore: propeller shafts, pump shafts, fasteners
β’ Oil & gas: downhole tools, valve components, springs (sour service)
β’ Chemical processing: heat exchangers, scraper blades
β’ Aerospace & precision components
β’ Wear-resistant parts such as sleeves and mixers
Monel K500 is an ideal choice for demanding environments where both strength and corrosion resistance are critical.
