In a paper rewinding section, running five motors at the same speed is not enough.

As roll diameter changes and web tension shifts, every drive needs to respond as part of one coordinated process. A small mismatch can affect winding quality across the line.

In one paper manufacturing application, five LD350 VFDs were used in a synchronized rewinding system.

The motor power is the same.
The VFD rating is the same.

So why does one machine run smoothly, while another struggles the moment it starts working?

The answer is often the load.

A fan or pump usually becomes easier to drive as speed drops. But an extruder, mixer or loaded conveyor may still need strong torque at low speed—and may face sudden load changes once material enters the process.

That is why selecting a VFD by kW alone can be misleading.

Before choosing a drive, it helps to understand:

• How much torque is needed at startup
• Whether the load changes suddenly during operation
• How stable the speed must remain under load
• Whether the motor and control method are matched to the application

In industrial automation, the right drive is not simply the one that matches the motor power.

It is the one that matches the work the machine has to do.

Case Sharing:

The same application does not always end up with the same drive configuration.

⚙️ In extrusion, the motor and VFD are part of the production process itself. Together, they provide the rotation control the extruder needs to run.

🏭 At this customer site, an LD320 VFD is paired with a 250 kW TYP permanent-magnet synchronous motor.

The system is now running smoothly in the customer’s extrusion production.
