Methods for Modifying Plastic Granules

1. Filler Modification: Adding a certain amount of filler to plastics can effectively reduce production costs. Additionally, adding nanoparticles with special functions can create corresponding functional masterbatches.

2. Blending Modification: Mixing two or more polymeric compounds with similar properties in a certain proportion creates polymer blends.

3. Copolymerization Modification: Polymerizing two or more monomers yields a copolymer, such as ethylene + propylene = ethylene propylene rubber; acrylonitrile + butadiene + styrene = ABS resin.

Plastic granule color matching involves creating pleasing colors that meet color chart requirements, are economical, and do not change color during processing and use, based on the three basic colors of red, yellow, and blue. Furthermore, plastic coloring can impart various functions to plastics, such as improving lightfastness and weather resistance; giving plastics certain special functions, such as conductivity and antistatic properties; and different colored agricultural films can have functions such as w**d control, insect repellency, and seedling cultivation. In other words, color matching can also achieve certain application requirements.

Coloring agents are mainly divided into pigments and dyes. Pigments are colorants that are insoluble in common solvents. Therefore, to obtain ideal coloring performance, they need to be uniformly dispersed in plastics using mechanical methods. Based on structure, they can be divided into organic and inorganic pigments. Inorganic pigments have excellent thermal and light stability and are inexpensive, but their tinting strength is relatively poor and their relative density is high. Organic pigments have high tinting strength, bright colors, a complete color spectrum, and low relative density, but their heat resistance, weather resistance, and hiding power are inferior to inorganic pigments. Dyes are organic compounds that can be used in most solvents and on the plastics they are dyeing. Their advantages include low density, high tinting strength, and good transparency, but their generally small molecular structure makes them prone to migration during coloring.

White pigments mainly include titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and zinc barium white. Titanium dioxide has two structures: rutile and anatase. Rutile titanium dioxide has a high refractive index, high hiding power, stability, and good weather resistance.

Carbon black is a commonly used black pigment, inexpensive, and also provides UV protection (anti-aging) for plastics and electrical conductivity. Different production processes yield various types of carbon black with a wide range of particle sizes and significantly different properties. Carbon black is classified by application into pigment carbon black and rubber reinforcing carbon black. Pigment carbon black is further classified by its coloring power into high-pigment, medium-pigment, and low-pigment carbon black. Carbon black particles are prone to aggregation; improving their coloring power requires addressing their dispersibility.

Pearlite pigments, also known as mica titanium pearlite pigments, are mica flakes coated with titanium dioxide. Based on hue, they can be divided into three categories: silver-white pearlite pigments, iridescent pearlite pigments, and colored pearlite pigments.
