Immersion liquid-cooled EV charging stations are an advanced charging technology. Their working principle involves completely immersing key heat-generating components, such as charging cables and connectors, in a coolant with excellent insulation and thermal conductivity, achieving efficient and direct heat dissipation.
The key aspects can be summarized as follows:
Heat Generation: During ultra-high power charging (e.g., 600A and above), the current passing through the conductors inside the charging cable and charging gun generates enormous heat, making the cable and charging gun the primary heat sources.
Direct Immersion Heat Dissipation: This is the core of the technology. The entire charging gun's cable tip, internal conductors, and even parts of the power module are completely immersed in a sealed coolant tank or coolant circulation pipe. These coolants are engineering-grade insulating coolants (such as mineral oil, fluorinated liquids, etc.), which are non-conductive, non-flammable, and chemically stable.
Heat Transfer: The heat generated by the heat-generating components is directly transferred to the coolant.
Circulating Cooling: The heated coolant is driven by a pump and flows in a closed circulation system, carrying heat to an external heat exchanger.
Heat dissipation: In the external heat exchanger, the heat from the coolant is transferred to the secondary cooling circuit (water cooling system) or dissipated directly into the air by a fan blowing air through the radiator, thus cooling it down. The cooled coolant is then pumped back to cool the heat-generating components, forming a highly efficient closed-loop cooling cycle.
