Fresh off the forge 🔥 New batch: GOST cargo hooks No. 14A (short shank) and No. 14B (long shank), forged from Steel 20 — packed and ready for a Russian customer.
A few details on these:
⚙️ Steel 20 (GOST 1050 mild carbon steel) — tough and ductile, the classic hook steel for dynamic lifting loads
🔩 M48 shank thread — these hooks mount into a hook block with the matching nut, exactly as GOST hook assemblies are built
🔥 Hot drop-forged from one solid billet and heat treated — grain flow follows the hook's contour instead of cutting across it
⚫ Finished in black RAL 9005, our standard for Russian orders, with an ISO 12944 coating system for cold climates and heavy port / steel mill duty

Why do some crane hooks rust after one season outdoors — while others look untouched for years? 🪝
It comes down to what happens before the final colour goes on.
A recent order for a customer in Russia: forged crane hook blanks produced to GOST requirements, finished in black. Here's the coating process behind that simple "black paint" request:
1️⃣ Shot blasting first
Every hook is shot-blasted before painting — all rust, mill scale and dirt removed, leaving a clean, rough surface. Paint can only protect what it can actually grip.
2️⃣ Zinc-rich epoxy primer — ~80 µm
A blue-grey zinc-rich epoxy primer goes on first (swipe ➡️ — yes, the primer is supposed to be that colour). It does two jobs: active corrosion protection at the base, and a strong anchor for the topcoat.
3️⃣ Polyurethane topcoat — ~60 µm
Then the black polyurethane finish: high hardness, abrasion-resistant, UV-stable, excellent gloss retention, and built for salt-spray environments.
Total dry film thickness: 140 µm+ (≥120 µm), applied in line with ISO 12944.
For lifting components, paint is never cosmetic. It's the difference between a hook that corrodes in two seasons and one that still looks like this after years on a port or open yard.
