From manual cake scraping after every cycle to much cleaner discharge — this time, I did not start with the discharge system. ⚙️
At the site, the problem was very clear:
The cake kept sticking to the filter cloth, discharge was incomplete, and operators had to clean the plates manually after each cycle. 😓
During the inspection, I focused on several key points:
🔹 Filter cloth material, permeability, and surface finish
🔹 Cloth ageing and blinding
🔹 Feed pressure and feed time
🔹 Cake thickness and final moisture
🔹 Slurry particle size, viscosity, and chemical dosing
🔹 Discharge time and cake release performance
The issue was not caused by one single factor.
The material was fine and sticky, the cloth surface was already partially blinded, and the final feed pressure and holding time were too high. The cake had become too dense and was almost locked onto the cloth.
We then:
🧼 cleaned the plate drainage channels
🧪 adjusted the chemical dosing
📉 optimized the feed pressure curve and cycle time
🧵 rechecked the filter cloth selection
The result was clear:
✅ Cleaner cake release
✅ Less manual scraping
✅ Shorter discharge time
✅ Lower cleaning frequency
✅ More stable filtration cycles
This is why I never look at cake discharge as an isolated problem.
Cloth selection, slurry properties, dosing, pressure, time, and moisture all show up in the final cake.
