Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) delivers much higher safety compared to traditional bare AAC and ACSR overhead conductors. Its individual XLPE/HDPE insulation cuts phase‑to‑phase flashovers, electrocution hazards, wildfire risks and illegal power‑tapping losses for low‑ & medium‑voltage distribution networks.

Improper overhead conductor selection leads to significant I²R power losses, thermal sag and voltage drop. Substandard insulation and inadequate mechanical design trigger frequent line faults and outages. Matching cable specs to load, short-circuit demands and local environment is critical for grid reliability.

All Aluminium Alloy Conductor (AAAC) stands out as the best overhead line solution for coastal power projects. Boasting excellent salt spray corrosion resistance and high strength-to-weight ratio, it avoids galvanic corrosion issues seen in ACSR and overcomes the insufficient tensile strength of AAC.

Outdoor direct burial cabling needs robust mechanical & moisture protection. Three main armoured cable solutions exist: SWA, STA and non-magnetic AWA, each suited for multi-core or single-core AC underground power circuits.

NA2XY aluminium cable serves as a cost-effective alternative to copper N2XY for large power distribution projects. While aluminium’s lower conductivity requires larger conductor cross-sections, it delivers 40–60% raw material savings and lighter weight for long-distance installations.

Residential projects mostly use single-core conduit wires for branch circuits, while commercial sites require LV power, SWA underground and LSZH fire-resistant cables. All bulk cables are classified based on voltage rating, conductor material and insulation type to match different electrical project requirements.

Selecting between N2XRY copper cable and NA2XRY aluminium cable for bulk orders means balancing electrical performance, mechanical limits and project budget. Choose copper N2XRY for higher conductivity in tight layouts, or aluminium NA2XRY to save cost and weight on long power feeders.

Industrial plant power distribution needs carefully chosen cables. Medium voltage XLPE cables are used for main incoming feeds, low voltage XLPE/PVC cables for internal circuits. Choose SWA/STA armour for mechanical protection and LSZH outer sheath to improve fire safety inside enclosed areas.

Performance of NA2XBY DSTA Cables Under Mechanical Stress

No, the NA2XBY DSTA (Double Steel Tape Armored) cable is designed to withstand low to moderate crushing loads and light impact, but it cannot withstand heavy mechanical damage or high tensile (pulling) forces. Built under IEC 60502-1, NA2XBY features class 2 stranded aluminum conductors, Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, and double galvanized steel tape armor (DSTA). While DSTA provides excellent radial coverage against crushing in direct burial or duct applications, its lack of longitudinal tensile strength makes it susceptible to failure under heavy shearing, ground movement, or high-impact outdoor forces. For heavy mechanical environments, Steel Wire Armored (SWA) cables (such as NA2XRY) must be used instead.

Mineral Insulated (MI) and LSZH Cables for High-Rise Fire Safety

For commercial and residential high-rise buildings, Mineral Insulated Copper Clad (MICC) cables (complying with BS 8434-2 and IEC 60702) provide the ultimate fire-survival rating, maintaining circuit integrity for over 3 hours at temperatures exceeding 950°C. For general distribution where extreme rigidity is impractical, Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) insulated cables with mica tape barriers (classified as IEC 60331 compliant) are the industry standard. These cables utilize cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, an inorganic fire-resistant barrier, and an LSZH sheath to prevent the emission of toxic halogens and dense black smoke during thermal decomposition.
