💜🌿 Day 3 at ISSE 2026: From Data to Action

The third day of the 18th International Summer School of Economics (ISSE 2026) focused on one of the most important questions in sustainable urban development: How can data become real solutions for cities?

We had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Mirko Kraft (Coburg University, Germany), whose lecture "Before the Rain: Heavy Rain Risk Prevention and Insurability of Buildings" highlighted the growing importance of climate resilience, disaster risk prevention, and evidence-based approaches to protecting urban communities.

The programme then shifted from theory to practice with two inspiring lectures by the UR-WISE team. Prof. Sonja Jovanovic introduced participants to the concept of Living Labs for Sustainable Cities while Aleksandar Manasijević explored how Living Labs move from concept to practice, presenting their role in developing innovative, citizen-centred solutions for local communities.

The day concluded with an introduction to the co-design workshop on Nature-based Solutions (NbS), where participants began preparing for collaborative work on creating greener, more resilient, and more liveable urban environments.

💜✨ Day 2 at ISSE 2026: From Data to Better Cities 🏙️

The second day of the 18th International Summer School of Economics (ISSE 2026) was dedicated to one of the core themes of this year's programme: data-driven urban governance.

Participants took part in an intensive workshop, "Data-Driven Cities: Policy Analysis and Urban Development," led by Nikola Pejovic Pejović and Nenad Dimitrijević. Through interactive sessions, they explored how data and policy analytics can support smarter decision-making, improve urban governance, and contribute to more sustainable and resilient cities.

A full day of collaborative work encouraged participants to move beyond theory, discussing practical approaches to analysing urban challenges and designing evidence-based policy solutions.

💜 A great start to the 18th International Summer School of Economics! 💫

Today we officially opened the 18th International Summer School of Economics (ISSE 2026) at the Faculty of Economics, University of Niš, bringing together students and young researchers from different countries around the theme:

📊 Data-Driven Governance: Summer School on Policy Analytics and Urban Development.

The academic programme started with the introductory lecture "Data, Mind & Choice", delivered by Ivana Veselinovic, where we explored how data, analytical thinking, and evidence-based decision-making are reshaping governance and urban development.

The programme continued with an inspiring lecture by Dr. Anton Vorina on the use of AI in education and concluded with a walking tour through the city of Niš, allowing participants to connect both academically and socially.

The Summer School is represents one of the key capacity-building activities of the UR-WISE project, supporting the development of the next generation of researchers in policy analytics, urban development, sustainability, and data-driven governance.

Looking forward to an inspiring week of learning, discussion, and international collaboration!
