🛰️ Ever wondered how satellite data can bring ecological restoration to life? 🌿

Hundreds of kilometres from the sea, South Moravia still has meadows salty enough to support plants you would normally find on a coast. Together with our partners in the LIFE in Salt Marshes project, we have turned the first three years of restoring them into an interactive web story: "The land that remembers the sea".

📸 It is the first of four stories in the series, focusing on the terrestrial habitats of ten project sites.

Here is what you can explore:

1️⃣ Swipe between 2022 aerial photos and today's drone images to see how grazing, mowing, clearing and other measures have changed the land.

2️⃣ Follow the herds from pasture to pasture, year by year. See who sneaks past the camera traps after dark, and who stares straight into them. 🐮

3️⃣ Browse maps of invasive and expansive plants, created from aerial and satellite data. 🌱

4️⃣ Listen to what the sound recorders picked up. And meet some of the species that depend on these places, from the lapwing and the steppe wolf spider to the yellow-spined thistle. 🕷️

👉 For us at World from Space, this is what Earth observation is for: turning satellite and field data into something people can read and understand, showing not only where a landscape is changing, but why.

Best on a larger screen, but it works on your phone too. In English and Czech: https://life-story-terrestrial.worldfrom.space/en/

🏞️ ☀️ 🎶 Last week, almost entire team set off on our traditional Offsite Sprint. Five days in the Beskydy Mountains, with work sessions across teams interspersed with cycling and walking trips, swimming in Lake Balaton, cooking together and evenings spent playing the guitar, the heligonka or taking part in the ‘Olympics of Useless Skills’. 🎲 🪗 🚴‍♂️

💪 Group plank is our everyday bread so we practised it even on the Sprint.

❤️ The whole week was filled with a great atmosphere. We fostered not only team spirit but also friendships across the teams.

🚀 And now, even more united and motivated, let’s get to work!

Moc rádi jsme pomohli našim partnerům z Jihomoravská pobočka České společnosti ornitologické z projektu LIFE in Salt Marshes v údržbě ohrad pro dobytek v lokalitách v okolí jihomoravských Dubňan. 🐎🌳🐑
