ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope seen from space!
ESA astronaut, Sophie Adenot took this photo of ESO's Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) from the International Space Station, from more than 400 km above the Earth's surface.
Like a snail shell on the beach 🐌 a tiny spiral juts out from the Atacama Desert. This path circles up the mountain Cerro Armazones, where the ELT is under construction. It is just about distinguishable as a black dot below the centre of this image.
