Automated log handling in action at Groupe François in Virton, Belgium: A gantry-mounted SENNEBOGEN 840 E plays a key role in a highly automated log handling process, serving as the interface to an automated HOLTEC system. ⚙️

The 840 E material handler picks up the logs, moves them across the yard and precisely transfers them to the HOLTEC feed system. From there, automated processes take over the further handling and processing. Only two operators are needed to run the entire log yard!

Der 840 E Umschlagbagger nimmt die Stämme auf, bewegt sie über den Rundholzplatz und übergibt sie präzise an die HOLTEC-Aufgabeeinheit. Von dort übernehmen automatisierte Prozesse den weiteren Transport und die Verarbeitung. Für den gesamten Rundholzplatz werden dabei nur zwei Fahrer benötigt!

Only two operators for an entire log yard? That is the reality at Groupe François in Virton, Belgium, where a SENNEBOGEN 840 E material handler and an automated HOLTEC system work together to create a highly automated log handling process. 🌲⚙️

The 840 E transfers logs from the storage stacks to the HOLTEC feed system. From there, automated processes take over the further transport, separation and inspection of the roundwood.

💬 “We deliberately did not choose the cheapest solution – we chose the best one,” says Florent Vanlaetem of Groupe François.

The 840 E moves along the HOLTEC system, eliminating the need for travel lanes between the log piles. This makes efficient use of the available space while keeping the entire yard accessible. The electric drive of the 840 E also supports Groupe François in its goal of reducing the environmental footprint. 🌱

Der 840 E übernimmt die Stämme aus den Holzpoltern und übergibt sie an die HOLTEC-Aufgabeeinheit. Von dort übernehmen automatisierte Prozesse den weiteren Transport, die Vereinzelung, Kontrolle und Vermessung des Rundholzes.

Der 840 E verfährt entlang der HOLTEC-Anlage, wodurch Fahrgassen zwischen den Holzpoltern entfallen. Gained handling capacity of more than 100,000 tons per year – this is the result at FM Conway’s asphalt plant in Erith, UK after switching to an electrically powered SENNEBOGEN 865 E port material handler. Depending on vessel size and tide, up to 1,500 tons are efficiently unloaded in around 6 to 8 hours. 🚢

〰️ Despite tidal differences of up to 7 meters on the River Thames and a slender pier structure with limited ground bearing capacity, the SENNEBOGEN 865 E reliably masters these demanding conditions:

✔ 25 m reach for efficient unloading at varying water levels
