From racing dinghies to superyacht structures. One manufacturing process, one principle: fibre placed at true 0° for maximum axial stiffness. AFL winding, integrated loop joints, continuous fibre end to end.

A carbon fibre mast is a fantastic example where CompoTech process excels and conventional filament winding struggles most. At helix angles of 5–10°, standard winding cannot place fibre axially. That means the fibres doing the least work are oriented precisely where you need them most.

CompoTech AFL places continuous fibre at a true 0° axial angle. The result: 10–15% higher stiffness and up to 50% greater bending strength compared with conventionally wound tubes of the same cross-section. At the masthead, that stiffness is directly proportional to rig stability under forestay load. Aloft, every gram saved in the spar is a gram that doesn't amplify rolling inertia.

The video shows the winding process alongside the range of structures we produce: racing masts, boom tubes, spreaders, telescopic systems, and superyacht structural applications. All optimised for weight-to-stiffness to maximise performance.

CompoTech has commissioned a bespoke CNC machining centre, the COMAGRAV NOTUS 3000X. 5½-axis capability. Two years in the making, built to our exact specifications with our Czech machine tool partner, COMAGRAV.

The main advantage beside the 1,920 × 3,150 mm aluminium table with 9 programmable vacuum zones, a full rotary b-axis for tubular structures up to 2.5 metres. With Renishaw probing for on-machine measurement. Single setup, start to finish.

For our customers in aerospace, marine, and industrial sectors it means tighter tolerances, faster turnaround, and more complex work done entirely in-house.
