What will the energy market look like in 10 years? Imagine a world where an abundance of green solar generation and flexibility has balanced supply and demand and lowered costs across the value chain.

In this future, flexibility providers earn money not from arbitrage, but for keeping the system alive. Enrolling in a flexibility program will be the absolute standard for installing any device. Even more exciting, we could see energy contracts shift to flat fees, drawing a parallel to how the mobile revolution transformed the way we pay for data and text messages.

Unwind your Tuesday night with these fascinating insights into the future of energy. Tune in and listen to the full discussion with Chris Bernkopf from Podero and gridX CEO Anne Bicking now: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0x-GMP0

🔋 For energy companies looking to unlock more value from residential PV, batteries and EVs, MiSpeL is one to watch.
From 1 October 2026, MiSpeL is planned to take effect, creating new possibilities for integrating residential storage systems and EV charging points into the energy market.

For residential energy management, the Pauschaloption is particularly relevant. It applies to solar installations up to 30 kWp combined with a battery and/or charging point and provides a simplified framework for their market-oriented operation.

⚡ Importantly, these assets can participate in direct marketing while proportionally retaining eligible EEG support and levy benefits. A HEMS provides the technical connection between flexible assets in the home and direct marketing, enabling batteries and EV charging to respond to market signals while coordinating the wider home energy system.

MiSpeL also puts charging points on equal footing with storage systems, opening up further opportunities for EV flexibility – particularly bidirectional charging.

💬 “MiSpeL is an important step towards making residential flexibility truly market-ready. It brings us closer to a system where households can contribute flexibility when it is most valuable,” says Carsten Schäfer, Regulatory Affairs and Innovation Lead at gridX.
There are still conditions to watch: transitional arrangements apply and the Pauschaloption remains subject to EU state-aid approval.

But the direction is getting clearer and more solid now: Germany is laying the regulatory groundwork to turn residential batteries and EVs into active participants in the energy market.

⚡ Direct marketing. A challenge or a huge opportunity?

📜 The EEG 2027 reform was approved by the Federal Cabinet last week. This means direct marketing is set to become the standard for new renewable energy installations from 2027. This marks an important step towards stronger market integration of renewable energy while also raising the question of how we can unlock the full flexibility potential of decentralized energy assets without adding unnecessary complexity.

🎤 In her panel discussion at The smarter E, our CEO Anne Bicking explained why, from 2027 onwards, direct marketing is not just an additional challenge but also a huge opportunity especially when different flexibility and optimization options are combined.

💶 In fact, our calculations with Nomos show that the current solar market value of 7.8 cents per kilowatt-hour (c/kWh), which will no longer be supported by regular feed-in or fallback remuneration with the introduction of EEG 2027, could be increased to 9 c/kWh with HEMS and direct marketing, saving households up to €1000 per year.

🎥 Watch the video and read the glossary to learn why direct marketing is a way to keep distributed energy assets profitable after the fixed feed-in is phased out next year in Germany.

As the share of decentralized energy assets continues to grow, the ...

⚡ How do you scale electric vehicle charging infrastructure while also minimizing operating costs and grid fees?

As E.ON Drive added more high-power chargers to customers' sites, the available grid connection quickly became a limiting factor. Rather than waiting for costly and time-consuming grid connection upgrades, they partnered with gridX to make smarter use of the available capacity.

Rahul Bhanu, Global Product Manager at .ON, highlights the benefits of working with gridX:

🔋 Seamless integration of PV, storage and EV charging to virtually expand the grid
⚙️ Modular solution that adapts to different sites' charging needs
📈 Full solution breadth from dynamic load management to dynamic tariff optimization
🛡️ A local controller-based architecture that keeps sites running reliably, even during internet outages
🤝 Handling complexity while ensuring simplicity for the customer

As Rahul puts it:
"The gridX solution is designed in a way that it can offer all the basic functionalities but also can adapt quickly and easily to a specific customer need."
