Was macht man mit einer Anlage, die seit rund 45 Jahren zuverlässig produziert?

Man schaut genau hin, entwickelt weiter und investiert dort, wo es langfristig zählt.

Seit rund einer Woche läuft das Refitting unseres Glühofens. Nach vielen Monaten der Planung wird die Modernisierung jetzt in unserer Fertigung sichtbar.

Dabei kommt es besonders auf die Erfahrung und das technische Know-how unseres Teams an. Denn wer eine Anlage nach rund 45 Jahren modernisiert, muss nicht nur die Technik kennen, sondern auch die eigenen Prozesse genau verstehen.

Für ETHEN ist das eine bewusste Investition in die Produktionssicherheit der kommenden Jahre. Und damit in die verlässliche Qualität unserer Kapillar- und Präzisionsrohre.

Some projects only happen when production stands still.

From 10 to 30 August 2026, our production will pause for the annual summer shutdown. Behind the scenes, however, an important modernisation project will be underway.

One of the key components in our production is being upgraded after around 45 years of reliable service. Careful planning, close cooperation with our partner SOLO Swiss SA (verlinken) and a clear objective: to ensure our heat treatment processes continue to deliver the precision, reliability and consistent quality our customers expect.

That is why we are launching a workshop on the use of artificial intelligence in collaboration with KI.NRW. Together, we aim to develop the requirements for an AI solution designed to address issues at ETHEN and support staff in utilising relevant knowledge and information quickly and effectively. The workshop will form the basis for defining specific applications and determining the next steps for implementation.

KI.NRW is the central competence platform for artificial intelligence in North Rhine-Westphalia and supports companies in transferring innovative AI applications from research into practice. This collaboration offers us the opportunity to draw on valuable insights from research and practice for our own use cases.

Together, we look forward to exciting insights, new perspectives and the next steps on our journey to combine technical expertise with digital innovation.

KTA approval successfully renewed

Our KTA approval has been successfully renewed. This confirms that ETHEN continues to meet the requirements for manufacturing capillary and precision tubes for use in nuclear power plants. The updated certificate is now available for download on our website.

For us, the regular renewal of this approval is more than a formality. It confirms that our manufacturing and testing processes, quality assurance systems, and the qualifications of our personnel continue to comply with the stringent requirements of the Nuclear Safety Standards Commission (KTA).

In safety-critical applications, documented quality, reliable processes and continuous verification are essential. That is why we consistently invest in maintaining and renewing our KTA approval.

Investing in the future: Modernising our annealing furnace

Over the past few months, we have been working with great dedication towards an important milestone. Together with SOLO Swiss AG in Porrentruy, we have been preparing the modernisation of our annealing furnace, a key part of our production process for decades.

The upgrade will bring the furnace up to the latest technical standards and further optimise the heat treatment process. This investment strengthens the quality, reliability and efficiency of our production while ensuring that we are well prepared for future requirements.

A project of this scale requires more than technical expertise. It involves detailed planning, close coordination and direct communication. That is why we have spent the past months working closely with the team at SOLO Swiss AG through technical discussions, careful preparation and on-site meetings.

To carry out the furnace modernisation safely and efficiently, production will pause from 10 August to 30 August 2026. During this time, our office team will remain available and continue to support customers and partners as usual.

We appreciate the understanding of our customers and partners during this important investment and look forward to resuming production with an even more capable and efficient manufacturing process.

This month, our company celebrates its 107th anniversary 🎂

Since our founding, we have stood for reliable work and continuous development. Over the years, we have built strong business relationships and steadily expanded our technical capabilities.

An important part of this development is the trust of our customers. Many of these partnerships have existed for a long time and continue to evolve through our collaboration.

Collaboration with our business partners has also helped us expand and adapt our workshop and manufacturing processes. This has enabled us to refine our operations and meet the demands of the machinery and plant engineering industry.

Our 107-year history is the result of collaboration between customers, partners, and employees. We are already very much looking forward to one such partnership in the summer of this year, as the refitting of our furnace by the Swiss company Solo is coming up.
