🏁 Another exciting Formula 1 weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has come to an end.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya remains one of the most demanding venues on the Formula 1 calendar, renowned for its high requirements in aerodynamics, vehicle balance, and tyre management. For decades, it has served as a benchmark circuit for drivers, teams, and engineers alike.

At Tilke, we have been involved in the circuit’s development since 2002, contributing to various construction and modernization projects over the years, including modifications to the track layout and the development of the main grandstand.

This year’s race once again delivered plenty of action and memorable moments. Congratulations to on securing his first Formula 1 victory with Scuderia Ferrari.

We are proud to see another successful Formula 1 event at one of Europe’s most iconic motorsport venues and look forward to many more exciting races. 🏎️✨

A Look Back at the 2002 Grandstand Project

Great racetrack architecture is more than a structure – it is about creating an experience for spectators while meeting the technical and operational demands of world-class motorsport.

In 2002, Tilke Engineers & Architects was involved in the development of the new main grandstand at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Designed to provide excellent sightlines, efficient spectator flow, and seamless integration into the circuit infrastructure, the grandstand became an important milestone in the venue’s evolution.

More than two decades later, the grandstand continues to demonstrate the value of thoughtful design. Its clear architectural language, functionality, and adaptability have allowed it to remain relevant and fit for purpose in a constantly evolving motorsport environment.

From concept to completion, the goal was to create a structure that would serve fans, organizers, and the circuit alike—not only for the next race weekend, but for many years to come.

As Formula 1 returns to Barcelona this weekend, we look back at a project that continues to shape the spectator experience today.

🏁 Miami GP. Race week.

As Formula 1 returns to Miami, we are looking back at the work behind the scenes that helped shape the racing experience.

Ahead of the 2023 race, we were tasked with optimizing the track Surface to meet the highest Formula 1 standards.

A racetrack surface is always a precise combination of engineering, materials, and ex*****on, where every detail matters.

🎥 The timelapse gives a glimpse into the process:
The coordination, the machinery, and the expertise required to deliver a surface capable of supporting world-class racing.

The project was successfully delivered together with , who carried out the paving works with outstanding precision under a demanding schedule.

What fans experienced on race day was the result of this collective effort.
And now, we are ready to see it come to life once again.

🏍️ COTA. Circuit of the Americas. MotoGP Round 3.

Back in 2012, the wide open lands of Texas gave us the opportunity to create something from the ground up. A blank canvas, almost like a sandbox, where ideas could take shape and a circuit could develop its own character.

At COTA, every element tells a story. From the iconic climb into Turn 1 to sections inspired by some of the most legendary corners in motorsport, the track was designed to have its own spirit while embracing the DNA of racing around the world.

This weekend, it’s not just about speed.
It’s about flow. It’s about precision. It’s about pushing the limit.

🏁 Shanghai International Circuit

For us at Tilke, it is always something special when Formula 1 returns to Shanghai, where one of the most distinctive circuits on the calendar is ready to challenge the drivers once again. From the endless opening corner complex to the long back straight, the track demands precision, bravery, and perfect timing.

Did you know?
Opened in 2004, the circuit was designed and developed by Tilke, inspired by the Chinese character “上” (shàng), symbolizing “upwards” or “to ascend.”

And here is a fun fact from the construction phase:
During the construction of the circuit, the project required such enormous quantities of styrofoam for ground stabilization that it temporarily impacted parts of the Asian styrofoam market.

More than two decades later, the circuit continues to deliver spectacular racing moments and remains one of the most recognizable Tilke-designed tracks on the Formula 1 calendar.

We wish all teams and drivers an exciting Chinese Grand Prix weekend. 🏎️✨

🏁 “It’s lights out and away we go.”

Words we are looking forward to hearing again this Sunday in Melbourne.
In Melbourne, the Formula 1 season returns as the lights go out at Albert Park Circuit.

2026 also marks a special milestone. It has been 30 years since Melbourne hosted its first Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix in 1996, becoming one of the most iconic season openers on the calendar.

For us at Tilke, every race weekend is also a reminder of the responsibility that comes with designing and developing circuits around the world. Each track is created to combine safety, character, and unforgettable racing moments.

We were also involved in the 2021 redevelopment and maintenance works at Albert Park Circuit, contributing our consultancy expertise to the project.

As the engines fire up in Melbourne, we wish all teams and drivers a thrilling and successful start to the new Formula 1 season.

Let the racing begin. 🏎️✨
