Two passenger jets to be stationed in UK, with scheduled flights from London to Pristina
BERLIN/LONDON (w&p) 7 May 2013 – Germania to expand UK operations: Berlin-based
Germania Group is continuing the successful internationalisation of its operations and is
stationing two aircraft in the United Kingdom for summer 2013. Aside from charter flights from
London-Gatwick and Manchester to the Greek islands and Cyprus, Germania will operate a
scheduled service from London to Pristina. Gambia Bird, a sister airline of Germania, already
operates twice weekly flights from London to Freetown in Sierra Leone and Banjul in Gambia.
Germania will operate a regular service on Tuesdays and Fridays from London-Gatwick to
Pristina. Flight ST6478 will take off at 19:25 over the Thames and reach the capital of Kosovo at
23:40. The return flight ST6479 will depart at 00:25, arriving in the British metropolis at 02:05
(local times). As already in the winter schedule, Germania also operates full charter
flights to Greece and the Greek islands, including Corfu, Crete, Mykonos and Samos, for
tour operators such as Sunvil Holidays and Pure Crete. For this purpose, the airline is
stationing an Airbus A319 at “LGW”.
On behalf of Olympic Holidays Germania also flies to the Greek mainland, Greek islands
including Crete, Rhodes and Mykonos, and Cyprus from Manchester, the UK’s largest airport
outside of London. Germania stationed an Airbus A319 in Manchester in the colours of its West
African sister airline Gambia Bird. The aircraft is available for use in Manchester, as the summer
flight schedule in West Africa is adjusted to traditionally lower demand.
Karsten Balke, spokesperson of the management board of Germania, stated that “London-
Gatwick and Manchester are the two most popular departure airports for holiday makers in the
UK. We are delighted that we are able to build on our successful cooperation with Sunvil and
expand our collaboration with other renowned partners from the travel industry. By setting up a
scheduled connection from London to Pristina we are fulfilling the wish of many business and
holiday travellers for a comfortable, direct connection to Kosovo.”
Berlin-based airline Germania’s operations comprise scheduled flights to selected destinations in Europe,
North Africa and the Middle East, charter flights for tour operators to destinations in Europe, North and
Western Africa, as well as leasing. The independent airline’s route network currently includes more than
40 international destinations. Germania’s main airports are Berlin, Bremen, Dusseldorf, Erfurt/Weimar and Munich.
