We are pleased to welcome Sonja Noss as a speaker at EuroSTEMPeers 2026, where she will deliver a talk on “Sustainable High Performance: The Human Skills Behind Excellence”

Sonja works at the intersection of leadership, mental performance, and human skills in complex international environments. Having worked for nearly two decades in scientific research management, she brings a deep understanding of the realities, pressures, and opportunities of contemporary research environments.

Founder of Sonja Noss - Training and Coaching (est. 2018), she designs and delivers programmes for academics, researchers, leaders, and other high-performing professionals working at the forefront of science, innovation, and public service.

Her work integrates systems thinking, neuroscience-informed practice, and evidence-based approaches to self-regulation, resilience, and collaboration. She is a member of the Max Planck Society Executive Coaching Pool and currently contributes to the development of human skills programmes for European public-sector leaders through the EU Public Administration Leadership Programme (EU PALP).

Her training background includes – among others - advanced teacher training at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre and a postgraduate qualification in systemic coaching (CAS).

Drawing on neuroscience, performance science, and her experience working with research organisations across Europe, Sonja will explore why sustainable high performance depends on more than expertise alone. She will examine how compassion influences collaboration, stress regulation, and the cognitive capacities that underpin attention, decision-making, cognitive flexibility, and self-regulation, and discuss why it is increasingly recognised as a key human skill for excellence in research and innovation.
