We focus on the production of charcoal out of agricultural waste material with the general idea of generating a low- cost energy source.

We are initiating a project in Madagascar that concerns the protection of the unique environment and biodiversity of the island. We want to promote and adapt the idea of producing charcoal out of agricultural waste material instead of rainforest wood. Since decades charcoal is the main energy source for cooking. Gas is for most of the people too expensive. But also the fear of accidents plays a big role, when cooking with gas. The question is now how to anticipate this habit of deforestation and to turn it into something sustainable. Further we would like to build an exchange between German, American and Malagasy universities/ faculties. The different background of education or even culture will be fruitful for the creation of innovation and nurture the active involvement of today’s youth in tomorrow’s future.
