GKN Hydrogen Networking Event with Excellent Companies in South Tyrol, Italy.

We were pleased to host the members of Excellent Companies, a group of the south tyrolean industry leaders, at our facility in Pfalzen - Falzes, Northern Italy. The focus of the evening was on the future of hydrogen technology. Our CTO, Gottfried Rier, provided insights into our latest advancements in hydrogen storage, our AI-guided energy management and system monitoring and the development of our company and our team.

Discussions throughout the event centered on sustainable energy opportunities and integration strategies for various industries. We are grateful for the meaningful exchanges and the forward-thinking ideas shared by all participants.

ACT Expo / ACT News is a wrap. As we travel back and reflect, we see a lot of momentum for hydrogen in Heavy Duty Truck and Mass Transit transportation sector. 🔋🚛

Also, we do not see it as batteries vs. hydrogen in this sector, but how these technologies can support each other as clean energy sources to help the energy transition. Case in point, General Motors is using its hydrogen fuel cell as a mobile fast charging solution for their EV's.

We appreciated all the great conversation and looking forward to the follow-up to help provide solutions to get hydrogen "Back on the Road".

Some insights from Day 1: we cannot believe all the great conversations we have had on hydrogen.

Key challenges people are looking to address:
👉 Mobile refueling solution to help transition adoption to hydrogen;
👉 Decarbonizing Port infrastructure;
👉 Offloading of delivered hydrogen – as often much of the hydrogen in a tube trailer is sent back.

These are all areas where our compact, low-pressure hydrogen storage can help overcome these challenges.

No more chicken or egg debate on hydrogen refueling. 🔋 🚛

The answer is to right size your hydrogen refueling profile to your initial hydrogen vehicle needs with a mobile refueling solution. Then put a larger scale permanent refueling infrastructure in place when the timing is right and move the mobile refueler to the next expansion site to effectively leverage the capital.

Many associations (Trucking and Mass Transit) are starting to realize this maybe the most effective way to initially stand-up hydrogen refueling infrastructures and are working with their members to structure ways to creatively share this transition expense.

Our solution in this space leverages our safe and compact solid state metal hydride storage as the backbone:
👉 Can store the hydrogen directly from the source (on-site production or delivered (absorb 90%) without additional infrastructure.
👉 Majority of the hydrogen is store safely as metal (as a hydride) until needed.
👉 Hydrogen pushed through an effective cascade high pressure dispensing architecture.
👉 Design scalable to multiple refueling profiles.

- 4 GKN Hydrogen locations stood up and multiple global partnerships were put in place that have allowed us to expand our footprint and reach, providing better service to our customers around the world.
- 35 solutions delivered in the field, providing big data to our digital platform and delivering daily insights for exponential learning and technological growth.
- Expanding project portfolio, especially in applications for off-grid, P2P (with Fuel Cell or Hydrogen Engines), P2G, and H2 Refueling Stations.
- Technology advancements, further developing our solution kit with expanded offerings.
- One highly motivated international team of nearly 100 talented individuals working together, building a company that makes a difference for our planet.

GKN Hydrogen recently had the pleasure to host Gerald Sprachmann and Maximiliano Taube Modyeievsky from Shell Netherlands (shell_nederland) at our Hydrogen center and production facility in South Tyrol - Italy, for an in-depth discussion on efficient storage technologies and GKN´s solid-state hydrogen storage solutions.

Shell's interest in our upmost safe metal hydride storage technology opens exciting possibilities for potential future deployments.
