ILA Berlin 2026 marked a first for ASTRA e.V.: our debut at one of the world’s biggest aerospace exhibitions. 🚀✈️
 
From 10–14 June, we spent the week connecting with industry leaders and passionate people from across the aerospace community — and sharing the projects our team is currently building.
 
There was something special about this particular trip: we arrived with an Executive Board fully led by women, in the very year our student association elected its first female CEO and welcomed the highest number of women to its Executive Board yet.
 
That made connecting with other women in aerospace, from engineers to astronauts, feel even more meaningful.
 
We also spent time beyond the exhibition halls, joining receptions and networking events that brought the whole BVSR community together.
 
Exhibiting alongside the BVSR group reminded us how much there is to learn from one another — and how far we can go together.

🚀 Descendence — Our Second Solid-Motor Rocket

In May 2026, we launched Descendence, our second solid-motor rocket and a test platform for our main project, Transcendence. The launch allowed us to test and validate key parts of our avionics and recovery systems under real flight conditions.

While the ascent was successful, we encountered an issue during recovery: the main parachute became entangled and was unable to inflate properly. We are now refining our recovery approach and implementing what we learned to ensure a successful recovery on our next flight.

Due to the unavailability of our originally planned motor, we also had to switch to a lower-thrust motor and significantly reduce the rocket’s mass. Curious how we did it? Check out our YouTube channel „ASTRA Bremen“, where you can find the full story — and watch the launch itself! 🎥

And this was only one step: more test launches are planned as we continue developing and validating the systems for Transcendence, our rocket designed to reach the Kármán line. 🌍🚀

🔥 Transcendence Propulsion Test Campaign

In March 2026, our Team conducted our second propulsion test campaign at DLR Trauen as part of the ongoing development of Transcendence — our student-built hybrid rocket designed to reach the Kármán line and break the student altitude record.

During a 5-second hot-fire test, our propulsion system reached a peak thrust of 18 kN — another important milestone on our way toward Transcendence. 🚀

The campaign also allowed us to successfully validate our Inconel nozzle design, bringing us another step closer to flight.

🚀 The next stage of ASTRA starts with you. Our crowdfunding campaign is now live on Startnext. ✨

In December 2021, ASTRA e.V. was born from a simple idea: students shouldn't just study aerospace, they should be part of it. 🌌
From that moment, we set our sights on one goal: the Kármán line. We had countless sleepless nights, we stumbled along the way, but we rose every single time, stronger and closer to our goal.

We grew into an international team, students from across the world, united by the same passion and determination. And in all the hardship and setbacks, we refuse to give up. We are that team. We are ASTRA e.V. ⭐
We design. We simulate. We build. We test. And we learn from every failure until it works. 🌟

Now we are asking you to cross the Kármán line with us. 🌠
