Since 2013, our founder Tahsin Dag has pursued one conviction: packaging can be made from renewable fiber.
He joined MDR THÜRINGEN’s „Hidden Champions“ to tell the story — from the first idea to industrial molded fiber across three European sites.
The starting point wasn’t a business plan. It was a bird on a beach, mistaking plastic for berries. That image became the drive.

At the OWF - Ostdeutsches Wirtschaftsforum in Bad Saarow, I had the chance to present how we’ve built PAPACKS over the past 14 years — at industrial scale into a platform with its own R&D, tooling, and production.

The talk covers:

– The Fiber Box: our fiber-based solution for fresh seafood logistics — in a European market that needs 1.2 billion
– The PAPACKS Campus Thuringia: where research will meets production, with students, engineers, and brand manufacturers working side by side

The Fiber Box is a finalist in the Sustainability Awards 2026 — Renewables category.

The Sustainability Awards, run by Packaging Europe, are judged by an independent international jury, with entries from across the global packaging value chain. The shortlist in the Renewables category recognizes a system we built for a demanding job: the temperature-critical transport of chilled seafood.

We developed the Fiber Box together with Transgourmet Seafood — not as an exclusive solution for a single company, but as packaging open to the entire seafood sector. As first mover, Transgourmet runs it in full operational use today and is converting its fresh fish operations step by step. What we proved together is now available to the wider market.

The Fiber Box is molded fiber packaging made from renewable raw materials — virgin wood fiber and industrial h**p — developed for the 0–2 °C chilled cold chain and confirmed for food contact (Eurofins). Empty boxes nest, cutting the volume of empties in storage and transport.

Winners are announced at the Sustainable Packaging Summit in Utrecht, 10–12 November.

We didn’t present the Fiber Box 🐠 at a trade show first. We tested it in daily cold chain operations — with real fish, at Transgourmet Seafood’s facility.

The result: TransGourmet Seafood is deploying our molded fiber box in their operations starting 2026. Together, we proved that the solution works under real conditions. That groundwork now opens the door for the rest of the seafood industry.

At fish international – Germany’s fish fair in Bremen, we presented the solution together. Visitors from over a dozen European countries stopped by — fish wholesalers, processors, aquaculture companies, foodservice distributors.
