AEROSPACE HISTORY, PRECISELY STAGED

How can large-scale exhibits, complex narratives and changing sightlines become one coherent museum experience?

At the Dornier Museum, Sehner realised large-format display cases, glazed exhibition components and custom constructions for the presentation of aviation and aerospace history.

Precisely integrated Priva-Lite glazing enables flexible visibility control. Large-span display cases provide stability while retaining visual lightness. Backlit wall elements support orientation, while a walkable solar system with a glass floor brings construction, safety and spatial experience together.

A coordinated system in which glazing, lighting, exhibition technology and architecture serve the exhibits and their stories.

What defines a security display case?
The answer goes far beyond the glass.

Whether protection is required against forced access, impact or ballistic threats, security depends on the precise interaction of every component: Glass. Frames. Metal edging. Case body. Structural connections. Locks. Installation.

Each detail must respond to the project’s specific requirements—while remaining as discreet as possible. One example is the concealed keyhole: a small but important feature that keeps technical elements out of sight without compromising their function.

Sehner combines project-specific protection with visual clarity—so the object remains at the centre of attention.

For the project depicted in the photo, a free-floating security display case opens via an integrated lifting mechanism. All locking, lifting and security components, together with the climate-control granulate for passive humidity regulation, are invisibly housed within the display case.

⇀ On the topic of lighting, here is a book recommendation coming from Jim Ashley-Down, Managing Director at UK

︙
Museum Lighting by David Saunders explores one of the most important aspects of museum practice: how light affects objects over time.

Drawing on decades of experience at the British Museum, the National Gallery in London and the Getty Conservation Institute, Saunders provides valuable insights into balancing conservation with visitor experience.

An excellent read for museum professionals, conservators, exhibition designers and anyone involved in illuminating collections.

Have you come across it? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

Philadelphia has been fantastic so far!

If you’re attending , we would love to meet you at Booth 1508 and continue the conversation around precision, perception, conservation, and showcase engineering.

Don’t miss our Poster Talk on Friday, May 22, from 12:00–1:15 PM:

Showcase Design with Light: Integrating Display Case Engineering and Illumination

The session explores how showcase engineering and lighting integration influence conservation, visibility, atmosphere, and visitor experience.

AAM 2026 — Philadelphia

Visit SEHNER PRECISION DISPLAY CASES at Booth 1508 during the AAM MuseumExpo.

This year, we are exploring how showcase engineering, lighting integration, conservation, and perception work together to shape the museum experience.

Together with Luxam Museum Lighting, Sehner will also present a poster talk:

We are looking forward to soon opening a deeper conversation on how to choose the right display — what needs to be considered, and what lies behind the technical decisions.

❝ Choosing the right display case is rarely just a question of design.

It defines how an object is protected, how it is perceived, and how stable its conditions remain over time. Many of the decisive factors are not immediately visible. Air exchange, material emissions, light, and structural precision all influence long-term performance.

Stay tuned for more insights on display case technology by Sehner — and Happy Easter!

⇆ Where the object leads, the design follows.

A display case is not the starting point, but the result of what the object requires — in terms of protection, clarity, and stability.

Climate conditions, material selection, lighting, and security work together to create an environment that supports both preservation and perception.

At Sehner, each display is developed as an integrated system, aligned with the intention behind the presentation and the context in which it is placed.

The goal is not to add presence, but to create clarity — so the object remains at the center.

Spotlight on Curatorial Intention

❝ A display case shapes how an object is seen and understood.

At Sehner, each display case is developed as a response to intent.
The craft is, to align conservation, lighting, and engineering into one precise system.

Choosing the right display case is not just about design.
It defines protection, perception, and long-term stability.

Many of these factors remain invisible:
climate, materials, light, security.

All working together — to create clarity.
