1900 Crystal Drive - Arlington County, USA

The prominent South Tower, one of two newly built residential buildings in National Landing, ‘lights up’ the booming business district with its dynamic design and the impressive colour scheme of the precast façade. Glazed ceramic elements in a warm terracotta shade emphasise the height of the tower as regular vertical pillars and characterise its structure. The organic material recalls the geological and industrial history of the district, which was once home to numerous bricks factories. The winding Potomac River inspired the curved shape of the building, making it a unique eye-catcher.

WUG Marktgasse - Baar, Switzerland

‘Integrated yet independent’ – that is how the architects wanted the new building in the centre of Baar to appear from the outside. The symbiosis has been successful: a relationship with the surrounding buildings can be clearly seen in the structure, materiality and colour scheme, for example in the concrete plinth, which can also be found on the neighbouring old school building, while the multifaceted nature of the façade design represents a unique feature and emphasises the unity and originality of the building. The exterior walls were clad with a specially developed textured, glazed ceramic skin, which was hung on a console substructure designed for the specific building. In combination with the pronounced window frames and the smooth concrete, the ceramic emphasises the strong, independent character of the residential building.

Schweizerisches Rotes Kreuz - Aarau, Switzerland

Situated between a green park site and a former industrial area, the multifunctional building with its twisted corner creates a link to both city districts. Accessibility and inviting charm on the one hand and a volumetric appearance on the other complement each other to create a contemporary, attractive design, which, in addition to the symmetrical window openings, is largely the result of the curtaintype floor-to-ceiling terracotta panels of the façade. The ceramic is provided with a delicate relief that gives the exterior walls an elegant structure and is framed by smooth terracotta strips.

Geschäftshaus Emil Egger AG + GFT Fassaden AG - St. Gallen, Switzerland

The cubic building on the corner of Martinsbruggstrasse and Schuppisstrasse provides a striking urban highlight and serves as a visual gateway to the neighbouring industrial area. With its clear, calm and at the same time powerful exterior, the building fits harmoniously into its surroundings. Ribbon-like windows and vertically aligned façade cladding characterise the appearance of the commercial district. The façade design of the new GFT-EGGER building takes up the characteristic elements of the surrounding ‘industrial architecture’ and interprets them in a modern way. The dynamic design of the façade deliberately breaks up the strict cubic geometry of the volume. The loggias soften the stringent appearance of the building with their targeted arrangement and create a lively dynamic.

H-Huset Hamngatan - Stockholm, Sweden

The historic Hamngatan, which in the past was flanked by commercial palaces, is the elegant showpiece street in the heart of Stockholm. With the new office and commercial building, the architects are building on this history by translating typical, traditional design elements into a modern language. The new building with its palatial floor plan attracts attention: It is larger and taller than its predecessor and impresses with its detailed façade design in a subtle green colour. Double-fired terracotta tiles in various sizes, shapes and cuts form an elegant pattern that gives the building a stylish, exclusive appearance; the special effect glaze provides shimmering accents and a lively look.

Tile House - Stockholm, Sweden

The unusual colour combination of bottle green terracotta and red window frames makes the opulent building stand out from its surroundings. The textured façade creates a modern industrial look that conveys strength and robustness while at the same time being discreet. Glazed vertical ceramic elements end in fine ceramic strips at floor level, creating the illusion of an all-round relief.

Step Up - Barcelona, Spain

Step up in the sense of ‘progress’ or ‘improvement’ is the name of the seven-storey office building in the booming, dynamic neighbourhood of the Torre Gloriès in Barcelona, which was inspired by technology, mobility and the lifestyle of the young generations. The creative façade construction of TERRART® baguettes in different warm red colours, which are randomly distributed on the walls, is a key factor in the unusual architecture. Installed partly horizontally and partly vertically, the ceramic cladding is permeable where light is needed, while also acting as an efficient sunshade and filter.

Smart 22 - Barcelona, Spain

Tradition meets modernity in the Poblenou neighbourhood, which looks back on a long manufacturing and industrial past. With respect for the historical context, GCA Architects designed an office complex consisting of three separate buildings that creates a link between the past and the future and, despite its own character, has clear references to the heritage of the past. The façade design corresponds to the characteristic colour palette of the district and reflects the importance of ceramics as a traditional material that continues to play a prominent role to this day thanks to innovative production methods, especially with regard to its ecological properties – the new building is Spain's first smart building to be awarded the corresponding certifications.

Estudiantes Vita - Barcelona, Spain

The first thing that catches the eye is the colour scheme: The natural green colour makes the student residence merge with the outside area and blend seamlessly into the surroundings. The simple façade surface is made of high-quality, extruded ceramic, with geometric modulation and framed by aluminium slats of the same colour. Opaque and transparent areas alternate, creating a cassette-like surface that produces a varying image depending on the angle of light and shadow. The ventilated ceramic building envelope also complies with the strict sustainability criteria imposed on the new building.

University of Glasgow Advanced Research Centre - Glasgow, Scotland

The ultra-modern new building houses the centrepiece of interdisciplinary research at the University of Glasgow, where several hundred researchers from different disciplines collaborate. Just like the ambitious and inspiring work inside, the building's design also conveys a forward-looking appearance: Large glass fronts and a light-coloured post construction, designed as columns in front of the ground floor, convey the spirit of openness, transparency and vitality to the outside. In front of the windows on the upper floors, narrow, red speckled terracotta bands, some of which are flat and others arranged like vertical pillars, create a lively, airy pattern and emphasise the radiant and light-flooded overall impression.
