Advancing human-relevant drug development with engineered 3D tissue models 🚀
Developing new therapeutics remains complex, costly, and time-consuming. A key challenge is generating physiologically relevant data early enough to support decisions on efficacy, safety, candidate selection, and dosing before clinical development.
At myriamed GmbH in Göttingen, Germany, human stem-cell-derived 3D tissue models address this challenge by reproducing relevant aspects of human physiology and disease in vitro. The platforms support early drug discovery, candidate refinement, safety assessment, and dose definition for first-in-human studies.
At the core is myrTissue-Cardio, a bioengineered human cardiac tissue derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells). These 3D tissues contract rhythmically and reproduce key functional characteristics of human myocardium, enabling functional drug testing in a human-based system.
Building on this technology, myriamed GmbH combines myrPlates and the myrImager, developed with SYNENTEC.
🧫 myrPlates are 48-well 3D cell and tissue culture plates for the construction and long-term cultivation of engineered tissues. Flexible stretchers support ring-shaped tissue formation under defined mechanical load, while fluorescent markers enable optical tracking of tissue-generated forces.
📸 myrImager is an automated imaging and analysis platform developed for myrPlates. It enables non-invasive, high-precision, high-throughput analysis of cardiac tissue function without direct cell imaging, including longitudinal measurements.
Together, myrPlates + myrImager enable:
• Functional analysis of 3D cardiac tissue
• Reproducible high-throughput screening
• Longitudinal functional measurements
• Human-relevant efficacy and safety assessment
• Reduced reliance on animal testing
• Improved prediction of drug effects before clinical trials
Evaluating drug candidates in human-like functional tissues earlier can help identify promising compounds and potential efficacy or safety liabilities before they reach patients.
Beyond cardiac applications, myriamed also develops advanced 3D models for skeletal muscle and brain research — contributing to more predictive, human-relevant, efficient, and ethical drug development and the advancement of personalized medicine.
