Opalin is a specific marker for myelinating oligodendrocytes.
Our Image of the Month shows a collage of a fluorescent immunostaining of a mouse brain culture using antibodies against Opalin (cat. no. 457 008 – red), GFAP (cat. no. 173 011 – white), and CNP1 (cat. no. 355 011 – yellow).

When working with antibodies, their validation is crucial to ensure that their results truly support your scientific hypothesis. And nothing beats validating an antibody in a KO model.
In their recent publication (PMID: 39163863), Yan et al. used our KO-validated antibody against SNAP91 to show that exercise-induced lactylation of SNAP91 (AP180) confers resilience against chronic restraint stress (CRS).

Although women have about twice as high an incidence of major depressive disorder, current basic research often focuses on male animals. Using an animal model that reproduces clinically-observed s*x differences, Zheng et al. (PMID: 38336220) have been able to highlight the involvement of region-specific monoamine transporters (MATs) in depression-like behaviors in female mice. Moreover, they also have been able to restore depression-like behaviors and alterations in MATs/VMAT2 expression in these animals.
SYSY antibodies used for this research:
rabbit anti-DAT (Cat. No. 284003)
mouse anti-NET (Cat. No. 260011)
rabbit anti-SERT (Cat. No. 340003)
rabbit anti-VMAT2 (Cat. No. 138313)

In their latest publication published in EMBO Reports (PMID 38413732), Yook et al. suggest PSD-95 as an early-stage biomarker and a novel therapeutic target for Alzheimer’s disease. Using our monoclonal Homer1b/c antibody as postsynaptic marker, they were able to reveal the underlying mechanism of elevated seizure activity during early-stage Abeta pathology.

Exciting new techniques such as CLARITY and iDISCO allow completely new insights into biological processes and structures. In their latest publication in STAR protocols (PMID 38280198), Refaeli et al. published a detailed protocol for marking engram cells using a modified version of CLARITY in combination with our c-Fos antibody (226 008). Our antibody works also for iDISCO, e.g. in the mouse brain (Courtesy of May Hui and Kevin Beier, University of California, Irvine).

PACS1 syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by intellectual disability and distinct craniofacial abnormalities. In their latest study, published in Nature Communications (PMID: 38280846), Rylaarsdam et al. investigated the impact of the PACS1 syndrome-causing gene variant on neurodevelopment. For immunohistochemistry of cortical organoids, they used our SYSY antibodies against Gephyrin (147 021), GFAP (173 004), Neurotensin (418 005) and SATB2 (327 004). Anti-GFAP (173 004) was also used for Sholl analysis of neurons.

In their latest featured topic Dr. Christel Bonnas and Dr. Roser Ufartes focus on neuroinflammation. Neuroinflammation is associated with many neurological diseases, including neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders and behaves like two sides of the coin: Acute inflammatory processes in the brain inhibit pathogens and promote tissue repair, but persistent inflammatory processes can become detrimental.

In their latest study (PMID: 37433002) Andrew F Paquette et al show how the human milk component myo-inositol promotes neuronal connectivity. Mechanistically, the sugar enhances the ability of neurons to respond to transsynaptic interactions that induce synapses. In this study however some of our antibodies were used for ICC and IHC. Memory loss due to Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the scourge of the aging population. Recent research shows that neuroinflammatory processes have an important role in the development of the disease. In a new research article, published in Cell Reports, Mishra et al show with the help of the new rat monoclonal anti-CD11b antibody from HistoSure, that engrafting wild-type hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell transplantation leads to complete preservation of the neurocognitive performance, reduction of the Abeta plaque load and neuroinflammation in mouse AD model. CD11b is an excellent marker of activated microglia in the brain and was used in FFPE applications to identify the infiltration and differentiation of wild-type progenitor cells into microglia in the Alzheimer brain. https://www.sysy.com/product/HS-384117
