Das längste Experiment der Welt
An der University of Queensland läuft seit 1927 das berühmte Pitch-Drop-Experiment.
Darin befindet sich Pech (Pitch), ein Material, das sich wie ein Feststoff anfühlt. Ein Hammer kann darauf zerspringen. Dennoch tropft das Material aufgrund seiner enorm hohen Viskosität langsam durch einen Trichter.
• Ein Tropfen benötigt etwa ein Jahrzehnt.
• Das Experiment läuft seit fast 100 Jahren.
• Mehrere Tropfen fielen genau dann, wenn niemand zuschaute.
Das Experiment zeigt eindrucksvoll, dass die Grenze zwischen fest und flüssig oft nur eine Frage der Viskosität ist.

Wieso sehen Menschen dieselbe Farbe unterschiedlich?

Unser Gehirn nimmt Farben nicht einfach nur wahr, es interpretiert sie ständig. Damit wir Gegenstände bei unterschiedlichen Lichtverhältnissen möglichst gleich sehen, gleicht es Farben automatisch aus. Deshalb wirkt eine Banane für uns meist gelb, egal ob sie im Sonnenlicht oder im Schatten liegt.
Wie stark unser Gehirn dabei mitarbeitet, zeigte das berühmte Internet-Phänomen „The Dress“ aus dem Jahr 2015. Das Foto eines Kleides sorgte weltweit für Diskussionen: Während manche Menschen das Kleid als blau-schwarz wahrnahmen, sahen andere weiß-gold. Und das, obwohl alle dasselbe Bild betrachteten.

Der Grund: Die Lichtverhältnisse auf dem Foto waren nicht eindeutig. Je nachdem, wie das Gehirn die Beleuchtung interpretierte, erschienen die Farben unterschiedlich. Das Erstaunliche daran: Beide Wahrnehmungen wirkten für die Betrachter vollkommen richtig.
Übrigens: Das Originalkleid war tatsächlich blau und schwarz.

„The Dress“ gilt bis heute als eines der bekanntesten Beispiele dafür, dass Farbe nicht nur von unseren Augen bestimmt wird, sondern vor allem von unserem Gehirn.

Diese Geschichte zeigt eindrucksvoll: Farbe ist oft eine Frage der Wahrnehmung.
