The e-obs GmbH

The e-obs GmbH Imprint: https://www.e-obs.de/impressum.html Welcome to e-obs GmbH! We are an innovative company based in Germany.

We are specialized in the engineering and the production of high-end GPS telemetry products to study animal movement and behaviour. e-obs specialisation are lightweight GPS-tags combining high data rates supported by intelligent recording algorithms (energy or acceleration informed) and remote data download capabilities. Our products enable researchers to analyse small scale movement with up to 1H

z GPS recording resolution and classify distinct behaviours using our unique acceleration sensor data with up to 100Hz resolution. e-obs offers GPS bird tags as well as GPS mammal collars in numerous shapes and sizes for a variety of study approaches with starting weights of 10g for bird units and 69g for our collars. All tags feature a GPS-unit, a unique 3D-accelerometer with raw data recording, a UHF Pinger (VHF tracking equivalent) as well as a high-speed radio-link for wireless on-site data download. Some of the solar powered bird tags feature an additional GSM/GPRS-module for almost worldwide data reception. e-obs has been founded by a team of engineers with several years of industrial experience. Having a strong engineering background we are able to not only deliver reliable state-of-the-art products but to push technology. We also have an excellent understanding of animal biology as we have been joining fieldwork and telemetry projects since 2001. Over the last 15 years we have developed a very good understanding of the biology of our tagged animals and the needs of our customers. This close relationship to our customers allows us to constantly improve and expand our product portfolio. We are dedicated to our customers and we offer the best possible support, assisting you in every phase of your telemetry project.

Each year the American Society of Mammalogists (ASM;https://www.mammalsociety.org ) recognizes the research accomplishments of its graduate and undergraduate student members with several prestigious honoraria. This year’s meeting will be held at Purdue University (https://mammalmeetings.org) in West Lafayette, IN. If you are a current graduate student close to finishing up your thesis or dissertation work or are advising a graduate student, please encourage them to apply! We also have 2 undergraduate honoraria available.

In 2025 the Society will award up to four graduate student honoraria ($2000 each) and up to two undergraduate honoraria ($1500 each). Graduate honoraria are awarded to both doctoral and master’s students. Information on the awards, eligibility, and how to apply can be found on the ASM Honoraria and Travel Awards Committee webpage (https://www.mammalsociety.org/committees/honoraria-and-travel-awards) Applications will be accepted from 15 January to 15 February 2025, with awards announced in early March. Application materials should reflect the research that the student will present in their presentation at the annual meeting. Letters of recommendation must address whether the student is prepared to present their research in the Plenary Session and the student’s role in designing and conducting the research.

Only current members of ASM are eligible for the Honoraria.

Please contact the Honoraria and Travel Awards Committee Chair (Dr. Mel Pardi [email protected]) with any questions or concerns.

First Paper in 2025 ! 😀 In an exciting study, you will get to know how red foxes move during different life phases – whether it’s searching for new territories, food, or a mate. Using GPS collars they analyzed movement patterns in southern Germany between 2020 and 2023.

Background Many animals must adapt their movements to different conditions encountered during different life phases, such as when exploring extraterritorial areas for dispersal, foraging or breeding. To better understand how animals move in different movement phases, we asked whether movement patter...

A first for wild turkey research: e-obs tags now bringing new insights into behavior studies. Congrats to the authors—many discoveries to come!

The expression of behaviour can vary both among (i.e. behavioural types (BTs)) and within individuals (i.e. plasticity), and investigating causes and consequences of variation has garnered significant attention. Conversely, studies quantifying harvest-...
