World's largest double-drum Blair hoist starts its journey from Germany to Canada!🚢
A major milestone has been reached: the delivery of the actual world’s largest double-drum Blair hoist is now underway, a defining chapter in our “Odyssey” project.🚀
Over the past months, our team at the Haiger headquarters has worked with full focus and precision: the assembly of the drums has been successfully completed. The fixed drum of the machine was already fully assembled for our Customer Day last November, providing an ideal opportunity for extensive checks and testing. 👷
The impressive hoisting machine consists of a total of eight drum sections, which are divided into a separate fixed drum and a loose drum, which are connected to each other by a cardan shaft. Each section has a weight of approximately 70 tonnes. The total weight of all components of the Blair hoist amounts to approximately 830 tonnes.💪
The first four drum sections of the fixed drum together with one of the two main shafts have been loaded onto an inland vessel in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. From there, the route takes them via Antwerp, the Netherlands, by Ro-Ro ship to Halifax, Canada. 🇨🇦
To ensure smooth on-site assembly, two of the four drum sections are being transported in a so-called “tub position.” This required specially engineered steel support structures, individually designed for each drum section, a logistical and structural challenge executed with meticulous planning.
Additional key components, including brake discs and slide bearings, are already on their way to their destination. 💡🔨
This week, factory acceptance testing of the second half of the machine—the loose drum—was successfully completed, meaning that it can now also be packed up and shipped to Canada.✅
Next week, the four enormous brake stands will be packed and prepared for shipment, marking the next step in this large-scale international transport operation.
Projects of this magnitude are made possible by expertise, dedication, and strong teamwork. We are delighted to have successfully completed this next step and will, of course, continue to provide updates on the progress.
Stay tuned! 👷
