🧪 PFAS-Free Coatings: Not Optional Anymore 🧪

The EU's proposed PFAS restriction could cover more than 10,000 substances as a single class. For coatings manufacturers, that's not a minor compliance update. It touches nearly every fluorinated component in a formulation.

Here's what's really at stake:

🔬 Fluorinated additives rarely do just one job. They deliver water/oil repellency, leveling, anti-blocking, and durability, often all at once. Replacing one means testing how the whole formulation performs, not just swapping an ingredient.

⚖️ Even fluoropolymers once seen as "lower-risk" are caught in the debate. Industry groups are pushing for derogations. Environmental bodies want them fully in scope. The outcome will shape sourcing strategy for years.

🌍 This isn't only an EU story. The US EPA and several states are moving on PFAS too, so global manufacturers need more than a single-market view.

🏭 Several major raw material suppliers have already shifted away from PFAS additives, some completing the transition years ahead of the final rules. The market isn't waiting to act.
