At the Commonwealth Maritime Domain Awareness Summit 2026 in Vancouver, DNV contributed to discussions on how cybersecurity has become a core pillar of maritime safety, with direct implications for vessels, crews and operations.

In the session “Digital Maritime Domain: Cyber and AI”, our expert Thierry Coq highlighted that cyber risks at sea are no longer limited to IT, but increasingly affect safety-critical operational systems. He underlined how regulation is moving from policy to engineering, with cybersecurity now embedded into vessel design and lifecycle requirements, and stressed that the human element remains decisive. Cybersecurity at sea must be engineered like buoyancy or propulsion, he said: essential, complex underneath, but operationally simple and fully usable by the crew.

The Summit, which DNV supported as a Lead Sponsor, brought together around 150 senior leaders from navies, governments and industry to deepen collaboration at a time when cybersecurity and supply chain resilience are becoming ever more critical. With most Commonwealth countries having a shoreline, strengthening maritime safety is not optional, but essential. A big thanks to Commonwealth Security & Resilience Group for organizing the summit!

Knut Arild Hareide fra Norwegian Shipowners' Association (Norges Rederiforbund)

Vi gleder oss til å sees der!

DNV has released the second iteration of its Steel Load Planner (SLP V2.0) self-service application.

Launched at the Posidonia trade fair in Athens, SLP V2.0 can now automate planning work that previously relied on manual input and judgement, making use of built-in AI to support customers to produce a fully optimized steel coil plan in minutes.

Speaking on the launch of SLP V2.0, Morten Løvstad, Vice President and Global Business Director for Bulk Carriers, DNV Maritime, discussed how it builds on feedback from the application’s initial version.

He said: “The main request was, can we unlock more vessel capacity, while continuing to maintain the highest safety standards. SLP V2.0 does this, enabling owners to carry more cargo while staying inside structural compliance limits. The added responsiveness and ship type expansion are also exciting innovations, and we look forward to hearing what the industry makes of this new development.”

If you're buying a house, it's "location, location, location". But if you're attending a trade fair it's "people, people, people". And a record-breaking Posidonia Events 2026, more than delivered, by bringing the best people in the world together this week - shipping people.

Today the most important, the seafarers, were even more in focus for DNV. We have been working with partners on a new initiative - the "Care for People" maturity assessment, to help map practices that can improve working and living conditions for seafarers. Minerva Gas Inc. were part of the pilot, and we wanted to commemorate their contribution today.

Stefanos Stylianos, HSQ & Marine Manager, offered some stirring words on the topic: "The industry is at an inflection point. Competence shortages, changing workforce expectations, and increasing regulatory focus on the human element are not future challenges — they’re present ones. Initiatives like Care for People move us from good intentions to structured, measurable progress. That matters."

The sun shone everyday on Posidonia, so it was fitting that our final silent expert talk let shined a light on the intriguing possibilities of Solar Energy in Modern Shipbuilding and Project Helios. Solar and battery are certainly leading the energy race outside of shipping, so it was very interesting to hear how this could work in a maritime context. In addition, the "Yes to Shipping Forum" visit put the next generation in the spotlight, with discussion on the concerns, opinions and perspectives of young people and in relation to shipping.

Finally, a huge thank you to all the customers and guests who come to visit the stand this week - we couldn't have asked for better company. If you're travelling back we also hope you're greeted with as warm a "Welcome Home" as we received in Athens - and just as much sun.

We hope to see you all soon, whether in Piraeus, Oslo, or around the world. But perhaps even sooner in Hamburg, where everything is getting into gear for SMM Hamburg.

Ladies and gentlemen, that's a new record!

I think we could all feel it, but Day 3 has officially topped the charts as the attendingest (is that a word? it is now) single day in the history of Posidonia Events. For the whole team here at DNV, we could instantly tell there was something very special about today.

We were extremely happy to welcome a long-standing partner, World Maritime University, to sign a new MOU. This was followed by a joint Expert Talk on Safety in the era of AI, a vital topic in the context of the expansion of these systems into ship operations and crew training. Wärtsilä was also named a new Integrated Partner of Veracity by DNV.

Following on from the launch of our shore power white paper, we celebrated the completion of a new project with the Port of Limassol (EUROGATE Container Terminal Limassol) and DP World. This is the first structured HAZID and HAZOP risk assessment for cold ironing in Cyprus, and is part of the EU funded DecarbonLIM project.

Our last AiP of the week was a significant one, a new wind-assisted MR tanker design that brought Guangzhou Shipyard International, ANEMOI, and Hafnia together. Wind-assisted propulsion passed its own milestone this week with the 100th system installation, so this is a timely project.

We presented Carbon Ridge with a statement confirming the results of a pilot that demonstrated peak carbon dioxide (CO2) capture rates of 98% during commercial operations onboard the STI Spiga, a 109,999 dwt LR2 product tanker owned by Scorpio Tankers Inc.. Several of the DNV team were also part of 's forum on taking carbon capture from concept to commercial reality.

There was not a lot of noise, but a lot of learning, as our "silent" Expert Talks continued. Alongside AI with WMU, we looked at cybersecurity at sea, something that goes hand in hand with maintaining shipping's excellent safety record. We also looked at an overlooked topic, underwater wet welding, with our friends at MAREX SUBSEA WELDS LTD, who also received new certificates confirming fatigue test results and an approval of a welding electrode. Not a topic discussed every day, but an important advance for vessel maintenance and safety.

Sadly only one more day to go. As always, you will find the whole DNV team right in the thick of it at Stand 115, Hall 4.

Day two of Posidonia Events 2026 got off on the right foot, quite literally, with a walking, talking tour from the Union of Greek Shipowners | Ένωσις Ελλήνων Εφο, a perfect way to start the morning, especially with DNV CEO Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen on hand to roll out the welcome mat.

The big talking point was the launch of a new white paper on shore power in the press briefing from Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria with Jason Stefanatos joining in to look at the lstate of play with the NZF GHG regulations and the latest alternative fuel numbers.

From then on it was all go, as we celebrated a new TADC with bound4blue, signed an MOU with the National Technical University of Athens, and Veracity by DNV celebrated our continuing cooperation with Kongsberg.

HHI had a busy morning with us at the stand, collecting two design AiPs in a single visit: one for an LPG carrier with a 90,000 cbm Type B cargo tank, and another for a 1,400 TEU container vessel designed to run on LPG dual fuel. Daehan Shipbuilding also joined us to ink a Joint Development Project for a S-Max Tanker with an Assistance Battery System.

The Expert Talks kept the stand humming, even if they were silent. There was a presentation on the new steel load planner from Morten Løvstad, which uses AI to help create and optimize loading plans, as well as a session on getting more out of LNG as a ship fuel. By the way have you tried checking out one of the presentation using the headphones yet? Please let us know if you've enjoyed the “silent talks”.

Two days down, but we’ve still got plenty of energy bunkered! Drop in tomorrow to see what else is in the tank for DNV at Stand 115, Hall 4.

Day one of Posidonia 2026 certainly didn’t drone on, at the DNV stand it raced by!

A real pleasure for the whole team here in Athens to spend the day with the people who keep the world moving, no matter the circumstances.

People and partnerships are always on trend, so it was great to honour our Vessel of the Month – the very aptly named Hellas Prosperity from Latsco. The recognition award ceremony for Almi Tankers was also a highlight, celebrating a partnership built on safety and quality over many years. We also welcomed SMDERI to mark an exciting new pilot on OCCS verification.

There was plenty on the technology side too. We awarded several AiPs for innovative new designs, including Huangpu Wenchong for a 45,000 CBM mid-size gas carrier, MARIC for an ammonia fuel ready 6,500 TEU container ship. CIMC ORIC received its AiP at an in-booth ceremony, and we signed a joint development project with SHI on the expanded application of composite materials in vessels.

Delegations from CSSC Group, Norway, and our Middle East hour shone a spotlight on important guests and regions, but there was a bright “Welcome Home” for every visitor.

Across the day the Expert Talks ran in the stand, covering everything from the evolution of offshore, the commercial realities of carbon, retrofit programmes for energy efficiency, to the challenge of methane under the FuelEU Maritime regulations.

Out of breath after that huge list, but ready for more tomorrow. So make sure to come and find us at Stand 115, Hall 4.

Welcome home Athens and to Posidonia 2026!

Time to get into the swing as the trade fair start off with an event DNV is very proud to be associated with the Capital Link Maritime Leaders Summit. DNV's George Teriakidis had the privilege of offering the opening remarks, noting the importance of the Forum in uncertain and tough times: "One thing has held true for every one of these gatherings: The value of getting the right people in a room together to speak plainly with each other. Shipping has always run on people and practical talk, and that is why this summit matters so much."

Our CEO, Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen sat down with IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez for another in a series of what is becoming one's of shipping's most engaging one-on-one conversations. Offering their thoughts on the direction the NZF discussions are likely to take later this year, AI as a safety issue for good and ill, and capping off with re-emphasizing the centrality of the seafarer building the supporting structures that will retain this generation and attract the next to the maritime industry. Our Maritime CEO Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria was also in action as part of the "Shipping at Crossroads: Geopolitics, Global Market Shifts, & Strategic Positioning panel."

Then on to the opening of the trade fair and our great honour to host the Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Prime Minister of Greece, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of Greece, Vassilis Kikilias, and Melina Travlos, President of the Union of Greek Shipowners at the DNV stand.

If today is anything to go by tomorrow will be spectacular - see you at the DNV stand (115 in hall 4) and keep track of all of our events here: https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=50f31af4ff87c8085f27e7faf51c50349f03e20b20af78a87c0e396b4f2e408cJmltdHM9MTc4MDI3MjAwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=38294f6e-aeff-6a0b-36f4-5986afd46b5d&psq=dnv+posidonia+2026&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZG52LmNvbS9ldmVudHMvcG9zaWRvbmlhXzIwMjYv
