THE STORY BEHIND AERSULATE®

What began with a small container of aerogel on Volker Schuster’s desk developed into an award-winning textile innovation.

Aerogel consists of 99% air trapped in countless microscopic pores. Its exceptional insulating potential is enormous – but integrating this extremely light and volatile powder into textiles proved far from easy. Many early attempts failed.

In this film, our Head of Research and Development shares how the Outlast team eventually succeeded in incorporating aerogel into an extraordinarily fine fibre or impressive fabric. The result is Aersulate®: an innovative insulation technology that can enable significantly thinner materials while maintaining high thermal performance – ideal for applications where warmth, low bulk and freedom of movement matter.

A major launch for fresh2SKIN® in Japan.
Workman has introduced MEDiHEAL® COSMOS, its new recovery wear for women and men. With 3.1 million garments planned between August and December 2026, the program brings fresh2SKIN® to an exceptional scale.
While the recovery function and the product’s notification in Japan as a General Medical Device relate to Workman’s MEDiHEAL® concept, Outlast contributes fresh2SKIN® – adding an immediately noticeable cooling effect and temperature-regulating comfort.
What makes this project special is not only its size, but the partnership behind it. Workman, Sojitz Infinity and Outlast Technologies brought together their individual strengths: a clear product vision, deep knowledge of the Japanese market and our textile expertise.
Throughout the project, the teams worked in close dialogue and carefully fine-tuned the product positioning and communication – always with the shared ambition to achieve the best possible result.
Seeing this shared vision become reality on such a scale is incredibly rewarding.

Young talent meets textile innovation 🚀
We are happy to have supported designer Vincent Schweiger of VINCENT NOIR MUNICH by sponsoring fabrics for his PARSEC project.
His collection “Paradoxon” is inspired by Proxima Centauri b - the closest potentially habitable exoplanet to Earth, yet still beyond our physical reach. This fascinating contradiction shaped garments that unite seemingly opposing qualities: protection and mobility, lightness and durability, scientific thinking and wearable design.
For us, collaborating with emerging designers is an investment in the future of the textile industry. Young talents bring fresh perspectives, challenge established ideas and show how advanced materials can inspire entirely new concepts.

Sweat is more than a comfort issue.

Under body armor and layered protective systems, heat and moisture can build up quickly. This adds physical strain and can make it harder to maintain concentration and operational readiness over long periods.

Conventional moisture management reacts once perspiration is already present. Outlast® Temperature Regulation acts earlier: capsules filled with natural wax absorb excess body heat and release it again when needed, helping to maintain a more balanced microclimate. In selected applications, tests have shown perspiration reductions of up to 48%, depending on the product construction and use case.

For military and protective clothing, thermal comfort should not be an afterthought. It is part of functional performance.
