Once offices, now parking decks 🚗 At Wega.punt in The Hague, cepezed has converted an existing office building into a parking garage. Its new skin is made of perforated and solid aluminium panels, alternating in broad vertical stripes. Air and light pass through the perforations ☀️, while the cars stay largely hidden from outside.

Our GLANZWERK magazine is back for a second round. 🥳

This issue is packed with projects we're proud to have been part of: bold facades, complex roofs and a few solutions that took some serious thinking to get right. We also talked to the architects about their designs, their decisions and how the collaboration worked along the way.

It's small enough to fit in any bag, so it works well on the train or over lunch, instead of spending another hour staring at a screen.

Ein Feuerwehrdach muss genauso einsatzbereit sein wie die Mannschaft darunter. 🔥

Beim Neubau der Feuerwehr in Schwebheim sind 1.100 m² BEMO Aluminium-Stehfalz in stucco natur verbaut. Mit Schneefang und Photovoltaik obendrauf. Form follows function, bis aufs Dach.

A building serving as a gateway to the city, on the way to Aberdeen. ✨

SEEDPOD, the food and drink innovation hub designed by Keppie Design for Opportunity North East, is situated on a hill and is clearly visible on the way into the city from the A96.

The design visually divides the building into two halves. The base is solid, inspired by the granite dry stone walls of the surrounding landscape. Above it sits a metal cladding. Old meets new. BEMO aluminum corrugated profiles, with a BEMO-FLON finish in Pantone 1915 C, clad approximately 1,800 m² of this upper building envelope. 😎

Ein Gebäude als Tor zur Stadt, auf dem Weg nach Aberdeen. ✨

SEEDPOD, der Food and Drink Innovation Hub von Keppie Design für Opportunity North East, liegt auf einem Hügel und ist auf dem Weg in die Stadt von der A96 aus deutlich sichtbar.

Der Entwurf teilt das Gebäude optisch in zwei Hälften. Der Sockel ist massiv, seine Vorbilder sind die Granit-Trockenmauern der Landschaft. Darüber liegt eine Hülle aus Metall. Alt trifft auf Neu. BEMO Wellprofile aus Aluminium, mit BEMO-FLON Oberfläche in Pantone 1915 C, bekleidet rund 1.800 m² dieser oberen Gebäudehülle. 😎

A building that stands out from the highway. 📍

SEEDPOD Food and Drink Innovation Hub by Keppie Design sits on a hillside above the A96, just before Aberdeen. The base is solid, drawing on the granite drystone walls of the landscape, while a metal envelope sits above it. Old meets new.

For the upper envelope, BEMO Wellprofile WP 55-177 was used in aluminium, finished in BEMO-FLON and Pantone 1915 C, covering around 1,800 m² of facade area.

It looks like steel. But it’s aluminium. 👀

How do you create the look of a massive steel beam within an aluminium façade?

At the ENTEGA Energy Centre in Darmstadt, a continuous horizontal band was designed to create exactly this visual effect. The result is a striking architectural detail – but behind the appearance is a carefully engineered aluminium construction.

And this is where it gets interesting:
How was the detail actually constructed?
How were the façade, substructure and soffit connected?
And how did 3D planning help turn the design idea into a buildable solution?

How can you achieve the look of a solid steel girder in an aluminium façade?

At the ENTEGA Energy Centre in Darmstadt, this very design concept was brought to life: a circumferential web creates the desired steel girder look – yet structurally, it is underpinned by a bespoke aluminium solution.

And this is where it gets interesting: how is this detail actually constructed? How were the façade, the substructure and the expanded metal ceiling connected to one another? And what role did 3D planning play?

Wie lässt sich die Optik eines massiven Stahlträgers in einer Aluminiumfassade erzeugen?

Bei der ENTEGA Energiezentrale in Darmstadt wurde genau diese gestalterische Idee umgesetzt: Ein umlaufender Mittelgurt erzeugt die gewünschte Stahlträger-Optik – konstruktiv steckt dahinter jedoch eine individuell geplante Aluminiumlösung.

Und genau hier wird es interessant: Wie ist dieses Detail tatsächlich aufgebaut? Wie wurden Fassade, Unterkonstruktion und Streckmetalldecke miteinander verbunden? Und welche Rolle spielte die 3D-Planung?

What changes when the light changes? 💡

At FH JOANNEUM Kapfenberg, the aluminium louvre facade shows how strongly light, shadow and geometry influence the perception of a building. Depending on the time of day and angle of incidence, the same facade creates completely different depths, contrasts and visual rhythms.

For architects and planners, this is a good reminder that facade design goes far beyond material and colour. The geometry of the facade and its interaction with (natural) light can become an integral part of the architectural concept. 🔦

The approx. 517 m² aluminium facade was designed by NOW Architektur ZT GmbH and realised with a BEMO INVISIO fastening system, creating an iconic architectural appearance.
