Can you drill a fingerprint?

Three plates, three motifs, one material: a chip structure, a fingerprint and a leaf, drilled into lead-free brass with PCD micro drills in Ø 0.34, Ø 0.229 and Ø 0.199 mm. Up to 1,088 holes per plate, bore depths up to 9×D, at up to 39,800 rpm under oil cooling on a Kern Micro HD.

New from ZECHA: the CBN grinding pin 9921 completes the PEACOCK series. Built for hardened and PM steels from 60 to 70 HRC. The result is a cost-effective alternative to milling in hard machining: twice the chip removal at lower cutting forces than a solid carbide tool of the same diameter, proven in force measurement. 6 to 8 hours of tool life in PM steel. RA 0.04 face finish straight off the machine.

The upcoming launch of the PEACOCK 9921 Series makes roughing ultra-hard steels cost-effective. CBN grinding pins that combine grinding and milling capabilities in a single tool. And you can see them up close at their launch at AMB in Stuttgart.

Built for powder-metallurgy and hardened steels up to 70 HRC, exactly where solid carbide tools reach their limits: six to thirteen times the metal removal rate at significantly lower cutting forces than solid carbide of the same diameter.

A human hair measuring just 90 µm in diameter. A milling cutter with a diameter of only 10 µm. Precision pushed to the limit.

ZECHA and KERN combine cutting-edge tool technology with ultra-precise machining to mill a logo directly into a human hair. Using a specially developed two-flute carbide cutter and the KERN Micro HD, the lettering achieves a width of just 10.73 µm—dimensions that can only be fully appreciated under a scanning electron microscope.

Up to 50,000 rpm. A feed per tooth of 1 µm. One extraordinary demonstration of what becomes possible when tool, machine and application work in perfect harmony.
